District Conference Canceled
During these challenging times with the Covid19 virus we have all been asked to stay home and not meet in large groups. Until further notice district meetings will be held by ZOOM over the internet.
The 2020 District 7790 Conference will not be held this year. We will try to fit in some of the more important programs during the October Annual meeting assuming all is well by then.

Rotary E Clubs During Challenging Times

March is here and what should be a celebration of Spring and St. Patrick's Day , we are dealing with a worldwide virus COVID 19.

Many countries are in a virtual lock-down as we try to curb the spread of the virus. Here in America we are now experiencing some of the same. It has caused panic and fear of the unknown resulting in panic buying when we are told stay in place.  We need to remain calm as the precautions being taken will help slow the spread of the virus.
We live in a global environment and will should expect to see more viruses , but as long as we keep are wits about us, practice cleanliness and continue to clean public places well in the future , hopefully it will reduce exposure.
Our club is open to all Rotarians who need to do a makeup or just want to read about great programs from around the world. Please join us at www.rotaryeclubone.org and click on makeups.
We hope to see you there.  Be safe and wash your hands!

J. Marcel Girardeau, a fellow Rotarian deceased

J. Marcel Girardeau, a fellow Rotarian deceased.  It is always sad when a fellow Rotarian passes.  Marcel was an exceptional Rotarian.  He died having achieved the "young" age of 100 years!  I feel so privileged to have met him when I visited his club in Trois Riviere this past fall.  He was on time for the early morning meeting with his bright and cheery smile.  Incredibly, he was still driving himself to these club meetings! I believe he served as a Rotarian for near 70 years!  It was clear in speaking with him that he valued everything and everyone associated with Rotary.  He is truly an individual who has connected and inspired others.  He will be missed!
The funeral arrangements are below should you like to pay your last respects to a wonderful human being.
The family will welcome relatives and friends at:
Pellerin Funeral Complex,
Lacoste & McGraw
290 7th Street de la Pointe
Shawinigan, Que.
G9N 1C4
Reception hours: Friday from 14h to 17h and from 19h to 21h
and Saturday, the day of the funeral, from 11:00.
The funeral will take place
Saturday, January 18 at 1pm
in St. Charles Garnier church in Shawinigan,
followed by burial in the cemetery...
St-Michel de Trois-Rivières.

Donors Go Back To School

Dear Rotarians,
As a member of The Rotary Foundation’s Major Gifts Initiative Committee, it is my pleasure to share with you an exciting donor appreciation opportunity.  Our Rotary Foundation would like to thank donors from New England who make a new, outright gift of $10,000 and above or a bequest commitment of $25,000 and above starting 1 September 2019 by inviting them to attend a private event at Harvard University on 29 April 2020.  Donors who have supported any of The Rotary Foundation’s funds, programs, or grants will be invited--but space is limited.  This special donor appreciation event will include a walking tour of campus with RI President Mark Maloney (Harvard College, AB History, ‘76) followed by a celebratory reception and dinner in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
We are also excited to announce that Mr. Alexander Falk – immediate past president of the Rotary Club of Marblehead, Massachusetts, and currently Assistant Governor and Youth Exchange Chair in District 7930 – and his wife Nora have made a lead gift in support of this effort with a $250,000 increase in their bequest to The Rotary Foundation.  Thanks to Alexander’s and Nora’s generosity and leadership, we look forward to hosting a highly successful donor appreciation event at Harvard in support of our Rotary Foundation!
Each year since the roll-out of Future Vision, The Rotary Foundation has sponsored seven scholars on average to Harvard through Global Grants.  In fact, since 2014 our Foundation has awarded over $1.4 million in scholarships for 34 students to enroll in MA degree programs related to Rotary’s Areas of Focus at Harvard.
We encourage you to utilize the attached promotional piece on your District’s website and social media channels in order to help secure new major gifts and bequests.  Space for the event is limited, so please do not delay.  Trustee Julia Phelps, Harvey Newcomb at The Rotary Foundation, and I are available to answer any questions.
Thank you in advance for your help as we invite those major donors in New England who make new major gifts or bequests to “go back to school” this spring with RI President Mark at his college alma mater!
Best regards,
Marty Helman

Why are we changing to ClubRunner? / Pourquoi change t-on pour ClubRunner ?

Posted by Denise Adams

Why are we changing to ClubRunner? / Pourquoi change t-on pour ClubRunner ?

ClubRunner simply offers more functionality that our current platform for a similar price. The main appeal is that ClubRunner is integrated with Rotary International's OneRotary database, which allows Rotary clubs and districts to link their databases directly to the main membership database maintained at RI World Headquarters. This simplifies how Rotary clubs and districts communicate with Rotary International. For example, when a club member's contact information is updated in a club's database, the information is automatically updated in RI's database as well. This integration eliminates duplicate data entry efforts and leads to more accurate information, such as on semiannual reports.

Why is the site only in English right now? / Pourquoi le site est-il seulement en anglais maintenant ?
First, the district is committed to having a bilingual website, so will not make a move to ClubRunner until it is possible to have both English speaking and French speaking Rotarians be able to easily use our district website. Second, ClubRunner cannot provide a private development platform, so we need a live site to build it.
This ClubRunner website should not be used for official information, as it is still under construction and testing.
