For Rotary, September is Basic Education and Literacy Month

Thank you to all Rotary clubs who participated with monetary donations and/or time to help deliver school bags filled with school supplies.

Is your club organizing a book drive or activity to promote literacy or address an educational need in the community or abroad ?

Literacy remains an important issue today.

In fact, 21% of Americans that are 18 and older are illiterate in 2022.

54% of adults have a literacy below sixth-grade level.

44% of American adults do not read a book in a year.

Your club can offer some Rotarian to become a reading mentor volunteer at a school at your choice weekly or monthly.

Or funding the purchases of reading books, renewal of books on topical subjects, providing school equipment to encourage reading (benches, chairs, tables, lighting) or some scholarships.

Thank you for your commitment to promoting reading,literacy and,above all,the pleasure of learning.
