On Thursday 24th January at 3:47am President Rae gave birth to a bouncing baby boy weighing in at 9lb 14oz and 55cm long. Mum and baby are both fine.
|

Unfortunately due to lack of numbers our annual Funspiel that was planned for this Saturday the 12th January has had to be cancelled.

Our club is planning a Club Assembly very early in the New Year.

On Wednesday July 2nd, 2008 President Gus welcomed into our club 3 new members. What an awesome way to start our new Rotary Year. The new Rotarians are Edith Loewen, Mick Lowder and Wynnette Lowes.

Our club was informed yesterday (April 29th, 2008) that the Inbound GSE Team from Bangledesh was cancelled due to issues arising with their visa's.

hola! Señorita Cherie hosted a fantastico Mexican Night on Saturday May 3rd. If you were unable to attend you really missed out on a great feast, and fiesta!

The GSE Team from Bangladesh has been cancelled due to three team members being denied Canadian visas. If the alternative applicants are able to acquire a visa the visit will still go ahead between May 21st and June 30th. More information will be posted as it comes to hand.

On the weekend of February 22nd through to February 24th our club participated in the annual District 5370 Curling Bonspiel held this year at Grand Prairie. Our club was represented by two teams this year.

On February 9th, 2008 our club hosted the 2008 Sweethearts Ball. This year the comittee chaired by Past President Scott Wisdahl decided to hold the evening at the Grand Haven Hall.

Our first Open House is scheduled to take place on Thursday January 31st at 7.00 pm. This event will replace our regular Wednesday meeting for January 30th, and is part of our recruitment drive for new members. Spouses are encouraged to attend the Open House, where hors d'oeuvres will be served. Read on for further information...

(Nov. 26, 2007) -- Rotary International today announced a partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that will inject a much-needed US$200 million into the global campaign to eradicate polio, a crippling and sometimes fatal disease that still paralyzes children in parts of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East and threatens children everywhere. |
On Saturday December 8th, 2007 our annual Christmas Party for the kids was held at the Seniors Hall in Fort St John. It all began at 9am when all hands were required on deck to get set up for the 80 children that were invited to attend. There was lots to do with setting up of games and activity stations, setting up tables, blowing up balloons, getting non-perishable snacks set out and bagging popcorn. |
On Friday November 30th the Sunrise Rotary Club of Fort St John, together with the Rotary Club of Fort St John, held a very successful and enjoyable joint Christmas party for the second year running. |

We must do such a good job of handing out hotdogs and hot chocolate as The City of Fort St John approached us to do it again this year. The Santa Parade was held on Friday evening, November 16th and the club rallied together to hand out the free hotdogs and hot chocolate to all the fine citizens of our City. Thanks to all who attended! |

Its been nearly two months and I am finally at the stage where I am getting to know the bus and train system, where everything is and where all the good restaurants and shops are! It is great because I am now able to wander and explore freely with out the fear of getting lost! |
The Sunrise Rotary Club is selling tickets for a 2007 Pro-one Vapor Soft-tail Chopper, a gift certificate ($500.00 value) for Torwood Lodge and a $350.00 fuel card. Proceeds from ticket sales will be going towards Abbeyfield House Society (FSJ) and the Rotary Trails project. For tickets, please contact any Sunrise Rotary member.

The morning and afternoon clubs have combined forces to ensure that Rotary Youth Exchange continues in Fort St. John. Robyn Kosugi will be our outbound student and we have no doubt she will represent us well.

The 8th Annual FSJ Sunrise Rotary Alaska Highway ThunderRun was a roaring success during the Canada Day weekend. Chair of the event, Kerri Laurin, announced this week that overall event revenues were at a record level. "The money raised will really help the Rotary Club to meet its program goals this year."

This year I was asked if I wanted to attend a RYLA conference through Rotary for a weekend in April. I didn't know much about the program, but decided that it would be a great opportunity.

President Scott just received the report from the Rotary Foundation for the 11 months ending May 31 2006. Our Club was number 2 in the District for total contributions and NUMBER ONE (1) for per capita contributions.

On Wednesday, February 14th, 5 members of the club helped residents of the care home and adjacent facilites celebrate Valentine's Day by dancing and socializing with the residents.

On Saturday Jan 21 there was a planning session in Edmonton for President-Elects ("PEs") with the District Governor-Elect, Ed Wilson. The purpose of the meeting was generally to assist the PEs to begin their planning for their upcoming year as President. |

Fort St John - Sunrise was number two in the District in per capita giving towards the Annual Program Fund at $127.30. Jasper was number one at $176.75.
|
This Rotary project started early in 2005 when the City of Fort St. John donated a 1980 LTI fire truck with 85 foot ladder and bucket to the Sunrise Rotary Club of Fort St. John on the condition that the club arrange for the donation of the truck to a needy municipality. The truck was too old to be certified in Canada for active use, but was in good working order and could still prove to be a very valuable and useful piece of fire equipment for the right community. |
The results of the ThunderRun are in. Over $18,000 was raised for the three groups chosen for this years proceeds. North Peace Kidsport will be receiving $5,453.47, the Child Development Centre will receive $5,453.47 and the North Peace Historical Society will receive $7,271.29. Thank you to Kerri and her crew for a job well done!!!! |

Our club has put in the "order" for the new incoming student for 2006. In August of 2006 we will be welcoming a student from either Venezuela, Thailand or the Phillipines. Please consider hosting a student...and if you can't host a student, please let Cherie know if you have anyone who may be interested in hosting a student. Lets help make the student's year one that he/she will not forget! |

Elections have now been completed for 2007. The new executive for 2007 will be Steven Cope (president), Rae Evans (president elect), Rick Kolter (treasurer), Kerri Laurin (secretary), Ross Sexsmith, Grace Fika and Gus MacLeod (directors at large).

September is Literacy Month. While you could be provided with a list of statistics that would astound you, especially relating to your own community and country, instead I will relate a moving message/story from Quintin.

On Thursday, September 15th the afternoon Club had three guest speakers from Grande Prairie at a special supper meeting and our Club was invited to attend. The theme of the presentation was the recent project and travel to southern Ethiopia by a 4 person team out of Grande Prairie. Excellent photos and displays accompanied the very moving presentation that left those who attended with a message of hope.

Starting July 1, 2005 the Fort St John Sunrise Rotary Club is officially operating as an incorporated Society. As part of this move the Society adopted the new organizational structure promoted by Rotary International.

On July 20th the new District Governor, Elly Contreras-Vermeulen, visited Fort St John and attended a joint supper meeting of the Sunrise and Afternoon Clubs.
