Our Back-to-School Supply Drive has officially hit an ALL-TIME RECORD, with more than 2,000 school supply items collected — and we’re not done yet as we are working on a few more partnerships. Today, Rotarians came together to sort through more than 2,000 school supply items that were collected! These supplies will be distributed to students at Sheafe, Evans, and Myers Corners Elementary Schools to help local students start the school year ready to learn. We were also thrilled to welcome Project Backpack as our guest speaker! With the incredible amount of supplies donated, along with four fully packed backpacks, we were able to make an additional donation to Project Backpack. Those supplies will be distributed to other elementary schools throughout the Wappingers Central School District! This is what Rotary is all about — neighbors helping neighbors and making a difference in the lives of local students. We are especially grateful to all of the businesses/organizations that served as drop-off locations - Town of Wappinger, Grinnell Library, ReStore of Habitat Dutchess, NBT Bank Poughkeepsie and Trustco Bank Fishkill. Your support made it easy for our community to give, and we truly appreciate your partnership. We had a very special guest speaker at today’s meeting! We were excited to welcome Kylee, an incoming junior at Roy C. Ketcham High School, whom our club proudly sponsored to attend RYLA 7210. She shared her incredible experience with our members, reflecting on the leadership skills she developed, the friendships she made, and the lessons she learned throughout the program.

Last meeting of the Rotary year was a bittersweet meeting as we gathered to celebrate and say farewell to longtime Rotarian Stan Straub and Maureen Straub as they begin their next chapter in Florida. We were joined by fellow Rotarians, honorary members, and guests to share lunch, present gift cards, enjoy cake, and most importantly, thank Stan for his incredible dedication and service. Stan, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls, thank you for 47 years of unwavering commitment to Rotary and our community. Your leadership, friendship, and countless contributions have made a lasting impact on our club and the lives of so many. Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls Honors Student Artists at “Art for Peace” Awards Ceremony - 46 Wappingers Central School District Students Participate in Inspiring Community Arts Initiative WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY (May 17, 2026). Under beautiful spring skies at historic Mesier Park, the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls proudly hosted its Art for Peace Awards Ceremony on Saturday afternoon, recognizing the creativity, vision, and talent of student artists from the Wappingers Central School District (WCSD). A total of 46 students submitted original artwork expressing their individual visions of peace, hope, and understanding. From these outstanding submissions, 11 students were recognized with top honors, including five first-place awards, three second-place awards, and three third-place awards. “This was a truly inspiring afternoon,” said Dr. Richard Thurston, President of the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls. “In a world too often marked by division and uncertainty, these young artists reminded us of the power of creativity, empathy, and hope. Their artwork gave all of us confidence that our future is in very capable and creative hands.” The event was presented through a partnership between the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls and the Wappingers Central School District, the ninth-largest school district in New York State. Representing the school district were Dr. Dwight Bonk, Superintendent of Schools; Bonnie King, Director of Fine & Performing Arts; and dedicated teachers and staff who supported student participation in the program. Representing Rotary were Dr. Richard Thurston, Club President; Randy Ross; and Steve Crew. The event was also attended by several distinguished community leaders, including: • Jennifer Niznik, Village of Wappingers Falls Trustee A special acknowledgment was extended to Lee Burns and DCH Wappingers Falls Toyota, whose sponsorship helped make the event possible and reflects their ongoing partnership with Rotary in supporting youth-focused community initiatives. The Art for Peace program was created to encourage students to explore themes of peace, compassion, understanding, and global citizenship through artistic expression—values that align closely with Rotary International’s longstanding commitment to peacebuilding and youth development. “This event demonstrated what is possible when schools, civic organizations, local businesses, and community leaders come together to support young people,” Thurston added. “We hope this will become a cherished annual tradition.” For more information about the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls, community members are encouraged to contact the club directly. Rotary Epic Day of Service, the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls was out and about in the community! Our Rotarians proudly walked in the Town of Wappinger Community Day Parade and spent the day as a community vendor connecting with residents and sharing more about our club’s impact. At the same time, few of our Rotarians were also at Wappingers Central School District Art in the Park, where we hosted our Arts for Peace Award Ceremony, recognizing creativity and promoting peace through art. The results are in for our Veterans Care Bins Project! In May, Todd Bowen and Maureen Lashlee from the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls, along with Shirley Adams from the Rotary Club of Poughkeepsie-Arlington, delivered the care bins to Liberty Station in Poughkeepsie to support our local veterans. In total, 15 care bins filled with over 1,000 donated items were collected through this collaborative effort. A huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls, East Fishkill Rotary Club, and the Rotary Club of Poughkeepsie-Arlington for their generosity and support of this meaningful project. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Old Navy (Poughkeepsie) and NBT Bank (Poughkeepsie Branch) for their generous donations to this worthy cause. This project is a wonderful example of what can be accomplished when our community comes together to give back to those who have served our veterans. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this effort a success.

Club President Todd Bowen and the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls are proud to announce that we’ve officially adopted two Town of Wappinger Gateway signs, welcoming residents and visitors into our beautiful town! The signs are located on RT 9 northbound (from Fishkill into Wappinger) and RT 9 southbound (from Poughkeepsie into Wappinger) - two major entry points into our community. Both sites now feature freshly painted signage, new Rotary Club emblems, and a touch of landscaping with mulch to brighten up the entrances. A big thank you to Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini for his support and collaboration on this community enhancement project. Rotary is proud to be part of the fabric of Wappinger—beautifying, serving, and connecting.

Wappingers Falls, NY — The Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls is proud to announce that four outstanding students from Roy C. Ketcham High School have been selected to attend this year’s Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Conference.
RYLA is a premier leadership training program coordinated by Rotary clubs across the globe. Each year, Rotary District 7210 brings together high school sophomores from across the Hudson Valley for a multi-day leadership experience. The program includes team-building exercises, workshops, and guest speakers—all designed to help students develop essential leadership skills, self-confidence, and a spirit of service.
This year’s selected students from Roy C. Ketcham exemplify strong character, academic achievement, and a passion for making a difference in their school and community. The Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls is proud to support their growth as future leaders and ambassadors of Rotary’s values of Service Above Self.
“Our club has long supported the RYLA program because we know how transformative it can be for young leaders,” said Club President/RYLA Chair Todd Bowen. “We’re excited for these students to bring their new skills back to our community.”

In partnership with the Town of Wappinger, we also completed the reinstallation of the bricks surrounding the upper base of the statue, helping to maintain the dignity and beauty of this important tribute.

This special evening was filled with inspiration, pride, and hope for the future as we recognized the hard work, dedication, and service of these young leaders. The awards included: • $8,000 in Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls Scholarships to students who demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, and a strong commitment to community service. • $2,000 in scholarships given in memory of our beloved Rotarian Carmen “Tony” Angelone. • $1,000 Stan & Maureen Straub Scholarship. Posted by the Town: The Town of Wappinger is proud to announce a landmark partnership with the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls, marking the first collaboration between the two organizations in over 30 years! At the heart of this collaboration is the long-overdue renovation of the Town of Wappinger War Memorial, located at Brexel-Schlathaus Park. The memorial, a solemn tribute to the Town’s brave veterans who served and sacrificed in defense of our nation, will undergo its first major capital improvements in over three decades. Planned improvements include the removal of the deteriorating and sinking patio base, installation of a modern drainage system, re-leveling of the area, and the placement of new landscape patio bricks to ensure long-term durability and aesthetic appeal. This restoration project is funded in part by the Town of Wappinger War Memorial Trust, established by Bill and Helen Parsons to preserve the integrity and dignity of the memorial site. More information about this project will be released in the coming weeks, including additional Park enhancements for veterans as well as opportunities for community engagement and involvement! This December has been one for the books! The Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls embraced the season of giving with a series of impactful activities: Supporting Habitat for Humanity: We decorated a Christmas tree that was auctioned off for $70 to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County.  Adopting Families: Club members went shopping to provide for 9 families in the Wappingers Central School District Spreading Cheer: Hosted a holiday lunch for the senior residents of Lower DiMarco Place and sang Christmas carols to lift their spirits.  Promoting Literacy: Handed out over 200 dictionaries to students at 3 local elementary schools.  Combating Hunger: Partnered with the Town of Wappinger Parks and Recreation for a food drive, benefiting St. Mary’s and Bethel Missionary Church food pantries.  Supporting Veterans: Purchased 20 sweatshirts and sweatpants for veterans at Liberty Station in Poughkeepsie.  Honoring Students: Hosted December Students of the Month, celebrating outstanding students from Roy C. Ketcham High School, Wappingers Junior High School, Evans, Sheafe, and Myers Elementary Schools.  Gratitude from Meals-on-Wheels of Wappingers Falls: Several Rotarians were acknowledged by Meals on Wheels Board Member Sue Bennett for going above and beyond in delivering meals all year. This year, the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls is thrilled to spread the spirit of giving by adopting 9 families in the Wappingers Central School District for the holidays! With three families each from Evans, Sheafe, and Myers Corners Elementary Schools, our Rotarians came together to shop for essential food items. Each Rotarian in the club also purchased a gift or gift card for the children in these families. We’re proud to serve our community and brighten the season for those in need. A big thank you to all our members for their generosity and commitment to making a difference.

Today, Rotarians Todd Bowen, Bill Halvey and Jessica Miuccio visited Old Navy to shop for 20 sweatshirts and 20 sweatpants for Veterans at Liberty Station in Poughkeepsie. Liberty Station offers Housing and Care Management for Veterans in the company of other veterans. A heartfelt thank you to Old Navy Store Manager Jay and Assistant General Manager Mary for their incredible assistance and support of our initiative. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the kind customer who generously purchased a sweatshirt to donate to our project. Your thoughtfulness makes a real difference! Together, we’re showing our Veterans the appreciation and care they deserve especially during the holiday season.
