Smoky Hill Rotary's 25th Annual ST4SK

On a bright Saturday Morning, August 29, 2026 SHRC hosted staff, students, and parents from Jewell Elementary in our 25th Annual Special Things For Special Kids (ST4SK)!  ST4SK chair Darryl Harvey has been running this program all 25 years and deserves special KUDOS!  36 students received over $200 each in clothing of their (and their parents') choice.  I think a few juice boxes and doughnuts might have been involved as well!  I call the pictures of the kiddos "Wilson Pictures" from the old show "Home Improvement."  IYKYK!  Thumbs up from all the kiddos!

2024 Special Things 4 Special Kids Success

Saturday, September 7 featured Smoky Hill Rotarians, Friends, and Family joining Jewell Elementary Staff, Parents, and their Kids for School Clothes Shopping!  About 35 students were treated to a $200 budget for shopping for clothes for the schoolyear.  Besides the great students' smiles and happy parents maybe the highlight was seeing the students hug their teachers and staff when they arrived on Saturday morning.  Donuts and Orange Juice got things started and then the shopping began.  Four hours later we had happy students, staff, parents, and Rotarians!  Thanks to Past President Darryl Harvey for leading this event for 22 years!  A great start to President Linda Forsythe's year as well. Smoky Hill International Projects

Smoky Hill Rotary has been extremely active in International Service including being the parent club of the Iradea, Romania club who we have partnered with for several projects.  Our  International Committee has partnered with multiple Rotary Clubs around the globe to complete these projects including being the Sponsoring Club for a successful Global Grant Project in Beius, Romania!  SHRC may be small but we are MIGHTY!

Smoky Hill Supports Ukrainian Refugees

Smoky Hill has sent $2000 to the Oradea, Romania Rotary Club to support their hands-on work with Ukrainian Refugees. We will send at least $3000 more in early April due to our fundraising efforts. We know our funds will be put to good use because we have personally worked with the Oradea Club and its members for over 20 years. Pictured is a family fleeing Ukraine on the way to Budapest and Prague, after being helped in Oradea.

SHRC Cools Comitis with New Refrigerator!

Thanks to our small but mighty Smoky Hill Rotary Club's $1000 donation, a District 5450 COVID-19 matching graft to SHRC for an additional $1000, and a similar donation from Denver Rotary we were able to help Comitis Crisis Center purchase a sorely needed new commercial refrigerator.

Valentine's Day at the Ronald McDonald House

Smoky Hill Rotarians cooked a great homestyle meal for the residents at the Ronald McDonald House in Aurora.  The Ronald McDonald House provides a place for families to stay who have a child in long-term care at Children's Hospital.  By providing a meal and lending an ear Rotarians take a tiny bit of the burden of having a child in the hospital away from the family.  This year we also provided a Valentine's Day opportunity for kids to make Valentines for their family.  And there might have been a bit of face painting going on as well.
