Thanks to our small but mighty Smoky Hill Rotary Club's $1000 donation, a District 5450 COVID-19 matching graft to SHRC for an additional $1000, and a similar donation from Denver Rotary we were able to help Comitis Crisis Center purchase a sorely needed new commercial refrigerator.
A smile can tell 1,000 words: The Comitis Crisis Center provides the only 24/7 adult and family emergency shelter in Aurora, Colorado. In recent weeks, the kitchen at Comitis produced a much greater quantity of food due to an increase of 50% in the number of people seeking meals.

This increase is due to quarantine guidelines, school closures and their new reality of unemployment, including many who are hourly wage employees. Comitis’ full-time employee, Chef Robert, produces approximately 150,000 meals annually out of one kitchen. He operates in limited space to manage food production. Due to the limited amount of refrigerator space at Comitis, we cannot stockpile food and are forced to shop frequently. During COVID-19 this has become problematic. We are excited to announce that thanks to two generous groups, the Denver Rotary Club and the Smoky Hill Rotary Club, a new commercial refrigerator has been added to the Comitis kitchen.
