"The Importance of Early Literacy in Our Community." Thanks to Geri Schaffer, pre-school children in Dauphin and Perry counties can be part Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, an international literacy project. Children can receive one book a month between being a newborn and five years of age for free. As of October, 2023, more than 221 million books have been gifted in the United States, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Canada and Australia since the project's inception in 1995. Geri is a speech and language pathologist and provides training and consultation to local school districts. She has dedicated her life to the special education population and has connected her experience in language development with early literacy skills as her passion. She is board vice-president for the Center of Advanced School Teaching and Learning.

All volunteer packing takes place at the Central Packing Operation located at 1530-B Bobali Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17104 (located off of South 19th Street). All volunteers need to be 14 or older to help.
Please park in designated spaces in front of facility, no street parking Volunteers are the lifeblood of the charitable food distribution network and we need your help to be able to support our neighbors in need. Thank you so much! Sign up in the Volunteer area below. While volunteering at the Central Packing Operation, you will pack boxes full of food for one of Central PA Food Bank's many programs. You will be on your feet during the shift so please wear work boots or closed toe shoes, gloves are recommended. Facial coverings are now optional while volunteering, working or visiting the Food Bank. Volunteers should not come if they have exhibited any COVID-19 symptoms within the last 14 days, or been in contact with someone who has. Please stay home if you have knowingly been around anyone who has been ill. Thank you once again for expressing an interest in volunteering with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank – we truly appreciate your support as we work to fight hunger, improve lives, and strengthen communities in central Pennsylvania.
