Sowing Seeds of Service: Rotary & the Carp Fair

Posted by Jessica Zijlstra

For over 150 years, the Carp Fair has been more than just a celebration of agriculture; it’s a community tradition that connects people across generations. Similarly, the Rotary Club of Kanata is committed to bringing people together through service, fostering unity and purpose both locally and globally. What connects them is a shared mission: creating spaces where people can come together, celebrate community, and make a lasting impact.

Kathleen Vermeer, a long-time resident of Carp and dedicated community member, embodies this sense of community. Her story is rooted in service, dedication, and an unwavering belief in the power of community. As a proud member of the Rotary Club of Kanata, she has expanded her service, and works tirelessly to amplify impact, particularly with local youth, in Kanata, Carp, and beyond.

Thank you Kathleen for taking the time for a quick ROK Q&A!

LOCAL ROTARY CLUB TO HONOUR

JIM PERKINS OF THE CAPITAL CITY CONDORS

On April 23, 2014 The Rotary Club of Ottawa Kanata Sunrise will be honouring Jim Perkins with a Paul Harris Fellowship for his work with the Capital City Condors Hockey Team.

The Capital City Condors is an ice hockey team for youth who are unable to play for any other hockey team due to a disability.  The Program is a highly rewarding experience for players, parents and volunteers as children, youth and young adults who only dream of playing hockey see their dreams come true and their abilities progress.

2011 Rotary Back Pack Project a Big Success !

Posted by Danielle Filteau on Sep 06, 2011
The Back Pack project has been completed for another year, and thanks to the generosity of Kanata Walmart and their shoppers, it was enormously successful!

“We are overwhelmed with the response of the Kanata community for our project this year. At last count we surpassed the goal of providing 200 backpacks stuffed with school supplies to local students”, says Kathleen Ellis, the Rotary Club project leader.

The club started the backpack project 3 years ago and has increased the number of backpacks distributed every year. This year the final total stood at 210 back packs and 4 boxes filled with school supplies.

THANK YOU
WE LIVE IN A CARING COMMUNITY!

Rotary International News -- 9 September 2009

Almost two decades ago, Cyril Noirtin, then a high school student from Nancy, France, received a special gift from Rotary: a chance to participate in an exchange to Wisconsin, USA, hosted by the Rotary Club of Lake Country-Hartland.

Noirtin had no idea that the one-year Rotary Youth Exchange  trip would change his life and personality.
