It was a great thrill in just my fourth week as president to induct a very old friend of mine into the club, Liz Tilley, who becomes our 18th. member and will join the Fundraising/Social Activities Sub Committee. Liz moved from Melbourne to Adelaide two years ago to be nearer her daughter Emily and her family and is continuing her nursing career several days a week.
On Thursday morning Bruce McDonald talked us through our last financial year highlighting our fundraising achievement of raising $17,360, donating $ 13,513 and finishing on the 30th.June with a balance of $18,866.
In Angus Tuck's absence I was able to announce that the Board had agree with Angus's recommendation of increasing the club's annual Columbian donation to $4.500. I was also able to mention that Angus has arranged for Lesley Spargo from the Adelaide Parks club to meet with us informally on Thursday 9th. August at 9.30am at our first Coffee Conversation at the Stables to introduce their Vanuatu initiative.
Yesterday, Bruce McDonald met with contractor Mike at Catherine House who removed six tree stumps and roots clearing the way for our Stratco building project.
Our next working bee is expected to be next Sat. 28th. July. and this will be confirmed.
Last night I attended the " Roll Over " of Brian Lange as President of the Eastwood Rotary Club for his second year which was most enjoyable. They are a small, but very vibrant club with 16 members.
They fundraised $14,008 (which included eight BBQ's at Bunnings at Mile End and donating $ 18,603 for the financial year.
Our two clubs are having another combined meeting at the Royal Coach on Wed. evening, 22nd. August when the guest speaker will be Ian Dixon who recently completed the Kokoda Track, part sponsored by Eastwood as part of a White Ribbon Project for which he raised $10,000. I encourage our members to bring along guests to hear what should be an excellent address.
