St John’s Youth Services
St John’s Youth Services (SJYS) is a community-based organisation that provides accommodation and support services to young people and children experiencing homelessness. As the only crisis accommodation provider in the city of Adelaide, SJYS has assisted over 10,000 individuals – and responded to the voices of the many hundreds of homeless young people we accommodate each year.
SJYS has a strong history of advocacy and partnering with others to develop innovative service responses to meet young people’s needs, as evidenced by the establishment of:
- The national Foyer Foundation to support the development of the successful foyer accommodation model across Australia.
- Our Award Winning outreach programs that support young people to make and keep a place of their own,
- The world’s first crisis accommodation service to be located within a mixed tenure inner city high rise. youth110 is also the first crisis accommodation service in Australia with a capacity to accommodate young men, women, siblings, couples, and young parents – including single mothers and fathers with dependent children.
Wendy will talk about why we have homelessness, and how we can all benefit by addressing the underlying factors that result in so many young Australians living without a home.
