RYLA 2018: A Transforming Experience

Before attending RYLA 2018 I was simply a 27 year old studying a PhD in biology I considered to complex to explain, who hoped to one day end up in academia. I couldn't plan for the future, had trouble presenting in public and had little to no self confidence; skills necessary for being both a successful academic and leader in the community. Through attending RYLA I have gained the ability to properly plan for the future, how to present with confidence, and realised why I should have self-confidence. I am now confident I can be both an effective educator and contributing member of the wider community. I will talk to you about how this transformation happened and where I see myself going forward with the skills I have gained.
