Climate Change and Our community and businessSpeaker Youn Sim Youn Sim, Ph.D., P.E., ENV SP is a 23-year veteran at the County of Los Angeles. As the agency’s Sustainability & Innovation Officer and Principal Engineer, he led the sustainability initiatives through strategic planning, policy development and implementation, and long-range planning of sustainable infrastructure management. He has been invited to give numerous speeches at Universities, and national conferences and workshops. He received a Ph.D. from University of California at Irvine in Civil Engineering. He is the former chair of the Sustainability Committee of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He has been actively serving Korean American community as the former Southern California chapter President of Korean American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA). He is currently serving as a President of Korean American Chapter of UCI Alumni Association. Speech Highlights The speech will discuss various climate change effects on our daily lives and the community and the consequent impact to our business in the short and long run. Also covered in the speech will be latest policy measures from local, state, and federal governments as well as industry activities to adapt to climate change impacts. |

BRADY CONNELL Brady serves as Executive Producer and showrunner of ABC’s holiday television series The Great Christmas Light Fight. He was also Executive Producer of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition where he supervised the television production and construction of over 100 new homes for deserving families. Brady has helped launch some of television’s most successful series, including Survivor and The Amazing Race. Brady is past president of the Playa Venice Sunrise Rotary Club, and is currently Senior Assistant Governor of Membership. From 2018-20 he spearheaded the district’s Habitat for Humanity project, helping to build 10 homes for deserving families in Culver City... which yielded over 1600 total volunteer hours from 12 different clubs. |

Demotion partyDemotion Party for the year 2020-2021 was held on June 23, 2021 at the Wilshire Country Club. Outgoing president, Hyung J Kim, told that this meeting was the first in-person meeting during my term and he didn't expect that this would be the first and last (demotion) meeting. Total 38 persons including guests joined the meeting and greeted each other and had fun with raffle (50/50, winner: Hong Il Kim), auction (Vitamix, Nespresso, Hacienda Golf course 4 sum, gift baskets and more) and karaoke contest. ![]() |

Scholarships to Elementary School Students in needs![]() The Rotary Club of Koreatown donated $2,500 each to Wilton Elementary School and Dr. Sammy Lee Elementary School to help the studets in need during this challenging pandemic time on March 18, 2021. We, Rotarians, are grateful to have a change to serve our community and give an attention and care to the needy students in our community. Together, we can make a difference. |

Covid-19: Donation to local communityThe Rotary Club of Korea Town donated $10,000 ($5,000 per each organization) to local organizations (KFAM and KYCC) to help the needy people in these tough circumstances due to Covid-19. KFAM (Connie Chung Joe, CEO is our member, too) provides Living expenses to domestic violence victims who are suffering more in this Covid-19. KYCC provides lunch in association with the local restaurants which are also suffering due to Covid-19 to seniors and low income residents. One of our members, Yong Kyu Yi donated $25,000 for this and our club matched some funds. The remaining donation (and more funds to be raised) will be used for the local community in need. |

8/2/11 Tuesday Meeting-Governor Brad Robinson VisitToday we were honored to have a special guest, District Governor Brad Robinson! Governor Brad spoke very enthusiastically about what a positive influence Rotary International had in his life as well as the changes other people have experienced. He gave a very encouraging speech and we look forward to his leadership in our district. Also present were his wife Catherine, Val Velasco, Sam Pirnazar, and John Colville. Governor Brad awarded Gene Ho and Jonglip Woo (Yongkyu Yi received on his behalf) the Transformer Pin for their outstanding service last year!

On July 5, 2011 we had our first meeting with the new Koreatown Rotary Club President, Dr. Alan Kims. The Guest Speaker was Mr. Alvin Kang, CEO of Nara Bank. 6/29/11 Gene Ho Demotion Party
The Demotion Party
for President Gene Ho was a success. The facilities at the
Wilshire Country Club were excellent as usual. We had various guest speakers
and overall fun-filled evening. Thank you Gene Ho for a great past year as
President of Koreatown Rotary Club of Los Angeles. We also recognized our new
President, Alan Kims, and our new officers for 2011-2012. Mr. Kyubok Han, one of our Hole-in-One winners, donated $3,000 to our club!

5/19/11 Charity Golf TournamentLast Thursday we had a very successful Charity Golf Tournament. Although there was rain in the days leading to golf tournament, thankfully, the weather was pretty good on the day of the event. There were two gentlemen who won brand new Audi A8's courtesy of Downtown LA Motor Group by having a Hole-in-One at Hole #10. As you can imagine they were very excited. Afterwards there was a wonderful dinner and lots of prizes and awards. No one went home empty-handed. Our Korean delegates from our sister club in Korea also came to visit us at the tournament. 10/19/10 Meeting
This was a special Rotary Club Meeting because we had more guests honor
us by visiting than usual. Our main guest speaker was Mr. John Colville
(Past District Governor) from the Paramount Rotary Club who has
frequently come to our meetings in the past. We also had guests Jenny
Sul (Sr. Assistant Governor), Cheryl Wong (Rotaract Governor), Jennifer
and Kevin from the UCLA Rotaract Club, and Dwight Heikkila from the
Westwood Rotary Club.

The Special Guest Speaker for the 9/21 meeting was Mr. Ki Ho Hong. He spoke about fitness in the workplace. Also we had a special guest from the 3M (Miracle Marrow Matching) who gave us a short presentation as well.

9/12/10 District Picnic and Cardboard Boat Race
In case you were not
able to attend last weekend's picnic, we had a great time of
fellowship. Our rotary club brought 100 pounds of Korean
BBQ (kalbi). Also this was our rotaract's first time joining the
Cardboard Boat
Race. They spent at least 3 weeks making their cardboard boat and even
hand
carved the dragon head on the front of the boat. They did a beautiful

8/31/10 Meeting
Yesterday, 8/31, our guest speaker was Dr. Mel Schrier. He spoke on the importance of doing comprehensive vision screening for young children. Compared to the "standard" testing procedures that are currently used today for vision testing (ie. reading an eye chart from 20 feet), Dr. Mel Schrier's testing methodology is much more comprehensive and is capable of finding vision problems that may go unnoticed for years in a young child.
