Update on the Rotary Grant Project at the Cottage SchoolOur Rotary club has a huge impact on our local community-- Our last project was the Cottage School Shade Structure and it is a wonderful example of our efforts! The Rotary Club of Fallon serves the Churchill County’s town of Fallon, which is a rural agricultural community. Churchill County has a population of roughly over 25,000 people and the median household annual income of $56,335, which is less than the medial annual income of $64,994 across the entire United States. This Rotary project served the grade school children of Churchill County, Nevada, by providing a safe, comfortable, and fun area for children to eat and play in. The Churchill County’s parks and recreation department provides an after-school program called CARE at the historic Cottage Schools. The CARE program serves about 70 children, and there’s a waiting list. The rural community has few and very limited after school options, and CARE serves all parents of the community and their children. There are children from all ranges from social and economic classes of the community- from elected and appointed leaders to convicted felons- that attend and participate in this program. The Cottage School was built in 1939 and in 2007 was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Our Rotary Club built upon the heritage and tradition of the Cottage School with the much-needed services provided by the CARE program and create a shaded eat and play area for the children while they continue their educational journey. We helped create a cool and shaded area with seating for the children to comfortably eat their meals and snacks. I am a mother of two (2) small children in the Fallon community. My children participate in the much-needed CARES program in Churchill County which provides after school care to children aged 5 and up. The CARES program is wonderfully run, providing care to over 70 children every day. However, the outside play area at the CARES' cottage schools left much to be desired. I would often see a crowd of children seeking shade under the limited tree area, while a sunny blank area remained vacant. The kids would rather eat inside the school or on the limited shade grass area, than sit at sunny and hot tables. As Rotarians, we improved this Cottage School/CARES area. A large shade structure was installed in the open area that allows children to comfortably play, have meals/snacks, and overall improve the otherwise unusable area of the property. The shade structure also has new, kid friendly picnic tables to assist the children to enjoy the outdoor area even on the hottest days in the summer. Churchill County hosted a celebration on May 1, 2025 at the Cottage School to celebrate all the hard work achieved at that location. Part of the improvement includes that Rotary Shade Project. It was wonderful to see the children enjoy the shaded space! The Rotary Club of Fallon’s mission is to implement community service in our community, emphasize on improving the lives of children. We achieved this mission by converting a sunny, dirt lot into a usable and pleasant eating and play area would better the lives of the children of Fallon. We made a tiny oasis for the kids. ![]() ![]() |

End of the Year Party 2022Thank you so much for everyone who attended Rotary's end of the year celebration! We had a blast, raised some money, and showed our appreciation to Priscilla.
President Baker was put on trial for the accusation of completing a successful presidential term. The Honorable Stu, inquisitor Zip, and defender Lane all put up a might fight- however, Priscilla was ultimately found guilty of all charges. This included the serious infraction of losing the bell! Donna and Glenn were gracious host who opened their beautiful patio for the event and served some delicious shrimp, steak, deviled eggs, stuffed mushrooms, cheesy potatoes, and salad. Wendell’s mom- Fred- also treated Rotary to some decadent brownies and a mixed fruit dessert. Rotary also held its first horse race competition at the party! Stu, Priscilla, Carol, Nancy, John, and Steve all sponsored horses for the race! The horses' names ranged from Donut Eater, Rapunzel, Cinderella, to '2 dudes with a horse get up'. Nancy's horse was the winner, and she took home over $700 in prize money. Thank you, Rotary, for being an amazing group of people. We are looking forward to another fantastic year of fun and doing positive things for our community and world. |

Congratulations to Rotary's Scholarship winners! Each student was awarded a $1,000.00 scholarship.Cailin Menius-Rash, accepted to Oregon State University in both science and video production, our own Kyla Trotter, who will be proudly attending the University of Nevada at Reno, pursuing computer science as a major, James Cosman, who will be taking a double major in biotechnology in Texas, and our own Chloe Tanner, who will be happily attending Texas A & M University. She has decided on business as a major. Miss Tanner has studied in many DOD schools around the world, and is our soon-to-be newest member's daughter. We welcome our military connected families from around the world, and are humbled to hear their stories of bravery and sacrifice. We stand with them, and by them. These amazing young people stand with Steve Endacott, a long time Fallon Rotary Club member. "Endo" chaired the subcommittee to oversee the 17 essays submitted by our Churchill County High School and Oasis Academy seniors. The Fallon Rotary Club traditionally awards each student a $1,000 college scholarship, based on grades, standardized test scores, volunteer service and much more. The club thanks members Jeff Jorgenson, former manager of The Stockman's Casino, Zip Upham, a public relations manager at the Navy base, and of course, the students' public school teachers and counselors. It was a joyful event, and the club celebrates our local youth as May is Rotary Youth Month. Photo and article by Steve Ranson, Lahonton Valley Newspaper. ![]() |
