I thank all club members for your ideas, enthusiasm and “can do “ attitude displayed at our first club planning meeting last week – there was such a buzz around the room and such robust conversation, that I feel convinced our club is heading for a great year. It was evident from the Team Leaders reports back to the meeting, that all members thoughts had been taken into account with committee plans and as such there will be total support for all club activities and projects undertaken. Fundraising, Social, International, Community, Vocational and membership ideas were all expanded upon and discussed by the club as a cohesive team. Our strategic Plan was adopted by the club for 2017/18, the nomination of Rob McLennan as President Elect for 2017/18 was unanimously accepted and it was agreed that President Julie and Membership Team Leader John Karran would attend the combined district’s membership forum in August. Let’s now embark on our 2017/18 rotary year to bring these plans to fruition.
Team leaders will be encouraged to publish their own items into the newsletter to allow and encourage “Friends of Rotary” to be aware of club activities which they can participate in, therefore assisting our club.
Club members participating in “Walk a Mile in My Boots” on Friday August 11 remember to bring $30 to this week’s meeting to give to Katrina or arrange an EFT of $30 to Adelaide Light Rotary – remember the Friday Walk will replace our normal meeting on Thursday 10th. We will be meeting afterwards at Alphonso’s on Hutt Street for coffee and/or breakfast.
Thought for the week:
Many great things are undone because someone wanted to think about them rather than do them”
The Adelaide Rotary Club are organizing a wine lunch at the Caledonian Hotel North Adelaide.
- Heartland wine lunch Sunday August 20th 12.00 for 12.30
The cost is $90 a head of which each club makes $20 from each ticket sold.
There are generally up to 6 courses and 12 different wines served. and there is also an opportunity to purchase wines at very good savings from which each club also gets a small return.
2. Emergency Services
- Relief Training dates
As part of Rotary’s Memorandum of Understanding with our State Government,
please find listed in the Rotary Horizons, the dates and locations for the Emergency Relief training sessions for 2017.
Training will be from approximately 9 am to 2.30 pm with a brief overview and most of the time spent in a mock scenario (arrival can be approx. 10.30 am for mock only attendance).
Please consider participating as it would be a great opportunity to share knowledge, experience the environment of an ERC, network and clarify and practice roles.
We ask that you notify us 2 weeks prior to the scheduled session with details of the number of people attending and any dietary requirements. At this time we will also provide you with the location that has been arranged for the training.
If you have any questions please contact:

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement
To be recognised as the Service Club of Choice in the Eastern Precinct of Adelaide because we are a Friendly Breakfast Club that appeals to a broad range of busy people who want to make a difference to local and international communities.
A lawyer, who had a wife and 12 children, needed to move because his rental agreement was terminated by the owner who wanted to reoccupy the home. But he was having a lot of difficulty finding a new house.
When he said he had 12 children no one would rent a home to him because they felt that the children would destroy the place.
He couldn't say he had no children, because he couldn't lie -- we all know lawyers cannot and do not lie. So he sent his wife for a walk to the cemetery with 11 of their kids.
He took the remaining one with him to see rental homes with the real estate agent.
He loved one of the homes and the price was right -- the agent asked:
"How many children do you have?
He answered: "Twelve."
The agent asked "Where are the others?"
The lawyer, with his best courtroom sad look answered "They're in the cemetery with their mother."
MORAL: It's not necessary to lie, one only needs to choose the right words.
