Stories
President's Pen

Yesterday's Changeover Breakfast on our regular Thursday was a great success based on the feedback that I have received and the venue, food and coffee were all complimented.

Some of the highlights were the thirty-four participants who attended including Andrew Black who travelled from Victor Harbor, Incoming DG David Egan, the Hon. Rachel Sanderson MP, State Member for Adelaide, Minister Families and Child Protection and three incoming Presidents of nearby clubs that we plan to work closely with, plus newly elected Adelaide City Rotaract President Heidi Wolff.

Past President Julie's excellent report on the past twelve months was well received and on behalf of the club Julie was able to present cheques to representatives from Shelterbox and Sight for All.

The awarding of a Paul Harris Fellow came as a great surprise to the five awardees.

Julie Campbell received a Double Sapphire for a wonderful year of leadership of our club.

Barry Grear AO. received a Sapphire for being such a wonderful stalwart of our club.

Bruce McDonald received a Sapphire for his very long service as Treasurer.

Rob McLennan received his Sapphire for his fundraising duties over the last three years.

Heidi Wolff received her Paul Harris Fellow for organizing Rotaract's very successful 50th. Birthday celebrations.

As incoming President, I outlined some of my thoughts for the coming year including my plan to trial fortnightly meetings over three months commencing on Thursday 2nd. of August. The club will continue to meet in the Board Room of the Royal Coach on the first and third Thursday of each month through until the end of October, where it will be business as usual with guest speakers, club planning, etc.

On the second and fourth Thursday's of the month there will be no formal meeting, however a Coffee Conversation will take place at The Stables at Victoria Park between 9.30am and 10.30am. There will be no guest speakers or club decisions made at these

gatherings.

September and October consist of four Thursdays however August has five and therefore Thursday 30th. August will be a regular club meeting at the Royal Coach set down to be a Planning Meeting.

Thursday 18th. October will now be a Planning meeting (Third week of Oct.) and the club members will be asked to evaluate the fortnightly meetings over the previous two and half months and decide what direction the club should take moving forward.

Tomorrow, Sat 23rd. June we will be at Bunning's at Kent Town once more selling sausages and hopefully we are in for a big day.

As soon as I have heard from Stratco I will let all the volunteers know what day and time they plan to deliver the goods to Catherine House next week.

Finally, the Eastwood Club have approached us to have a combined evening meeting on Wed. 22nd August with more details to follow.

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement

To be recognised as the Service Club of Choice in the Eastern Precinct of Adelaide because we are a Friendly Breakfast Club that appeals to a broad range of busy people who want to make a difference to local and international communities.

1. Banana
2. Dresser
   3. Grammar
4. Potato
5. Revive
  6. Uneven
7. Assess

Answer:

In all of the words listed, if you take the first letter, place it at the end of the word, and then spell the word backwards, it will be the same word.
