Stories
President's Pen

Our third Sat. working bee at Catherine House is planned for this Sat. 28th. July with the possibility of Colin Davies assisting Kym in directing us on house to erect the structure.

Rotaractor Paige will again be joining our team which will include John and Julie C. fresh from their vacation.

This morning's meeting was very lively with an excellent address from Wendy Malycha, the CEO of St. John's Youth Services which our club has been associated with for approximately twenty years, particularly in relation to providing second hand beds and mattresses.

Our club will be very busy on Friday 10th. August once again participating in the Hutt St. Centre's Walk a Mile In My Boots and also working the BBQ. at Bunnings at Kent Town.

While John Wotherspoon was travelling in Monte negro with Deborah, he came across a man who works in the local tourist office, who had lost his arm below the elbow, when he was 8 years old, due to an electrocution accident. Since then he has had a fixed arm attached, (pictured below), which gives him little assistance.

John contacted President Rob and suggested that our Club could send him an arm prosthesis like the ones that we assembled. This new arm would allow him to grasp items and give him more freedom in life.

It was agreed at our Club’s Board meeting to pay for the arm and send it to this gentleman.

Measurements were taken, (pictured below), and John ensured that there was some one to translate the arm fitting instructions and to assist with the fitting before he left to fly home.

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.
