Taken from President Julie’s address at the Rotary Club of Adelaide Light ‘s Changeover last Sunday:
“Each of us come to Rotary for our own reasons. But all of us have stayed because Rotary adds something to our own lives. It gives us much more than good friends, which, after all, can be found in many ways. It gives those friendships a deeper meaning, and it gives us a stronger connection to our communities. It gives us an experience and an education that we can find nowhere else – as we explore each avenue of service, guided by the ethics and values of Rotary.
We stay in Rotary, because Rotary makes a difference in our lives – and because we know through Rotary, each of us is making a difference in the world. And that knowledge, that feeling, is what keeps us coming back, meeting after meeting, project after project, year after year.
Because when you come right down to it, that is why we are all here, in Rotary. To make a difference to our world, to our communities, in the lives of others, and YES, in our own lives as well.”
The above I trust shows my passion for Rotary and in this newsletter I thank the club for allowing me to come into club leadership at such an exciting time. I believe I have a Board of Directors who have commitment to meeting my goals, and that this will be a year for the club to move forward with clear vision.
And YES we are going to hit the ground running:
This Thursday 6th July the newly inducted District Governor of District 9500, Peter Schaefer, will be making his official visit to Adelaide Light and as guest speaker will relay to us his vision and goals for the 2017/18 year.
He has requested that as many Board Members as possible remain after our breakfast for a meeting with him to further discuss his plans for the year. We will remain in the Board Room at Royal Coach for this additional meeting.
There will be no meeting Thursday 13th July as instead our club is joint hosting and funding (with Rotary Club of Adelaide) the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awardee) dinner on Wednesday 12th July at Belair Country Club. Our club has co-funded this evening for the last few years. All club members are encouraged to attend and partners and friends are most welcome. It provides an opportunity for us to see the work Rotary does with this youth program, showcased in one evening. It is necessary to book in advance and these details can be found further in this bulletin in “upcoming events”.
Sunday 16th July we have been asked to join with Eastwood Rotary for a tree planting exercise at 239 Strangways Road Inman Valley commencing 10.30am with lunch included (coin donation to Hutt St Centre), BYO drinks. Trees and shrubs to be planted have been purchased from Hindmarsh Island Land Care. Club members have said how much they enjoyed the tree planting that our club used to do, so I hope this is as much fun. Director Rob McLennan will give you all the details at our meeting this Thursday but you may like to diarise the date now.
