The Heart for Women Committee of Rotary Club of Paramaribo Quota once again hosted a well-attended educational lecture on cardiovascular disease in women on May 25, 2026, at the Courtyard by Marriott Paramaribo. The presentation was delivered by Drs. Renusha Gajadien, who guided attendees through the often-overlooked signs and symptoms of cardiovascular disease in women in a clear and accessible manner. Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death among women worldwide. However, many women do not recognize the symptoms of a heart attack, partly because these symptoms often differ from those experienced by men.

Soraya Warner-Gustave, District Governor of Rotary District 7030, and Daniela Herkul, Assistant Governor of Rotary Suriname, paid a courtesy visit to President Jennifer Simons. According to Warner-Gustave, visiting heads of state is one of the mandates of a district governor. The visit, which took place on Thursday, February 19, 2026, underscores the social impact of Rotary within the district and worldwide. Herkul explained that the annual visit of the district governor is an important moment for the Surinamese Rotary clubs. “Each year, we receive the district governor, during which we present the service projects we carry out and strengthen our connection with the district. In addition to visiting the various clubs, we also always pay a visit to the president to inform them about our projects and the work of Rotary in Suriname, the district, and globally,” said Herkul.

The Rotary Club of Paramaribo Quota successfully concluded its annual “Heart for Women” campaign, held throughout September 2025, to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases — the number one cause of death among women. The initiative was originally launched in 2013 by service club Quota Suriname and has been continued annually by the Rotary Club of Paramaribo Quota since 2021. The campaign’s main goal was to alert women and their families to the risk factors and symptoms of heart disease and heart attacks, helping them take preventive measures to protect their health.

The National Blood Bank Foundation of the Suriname Red Cross has received a significant financial boost from the Rotary Club of Paramaribo Quota. Thanks to the proceeds from the successful 2024 Quota Men’s Cook-out, the service club was able to donate USD 27,000. This generous contribution will be used entirely to purchase a specialized plasma freezer, an essential investment for strengthening Suriname’s national blood supply.

'Touching', 'beautiful', 'pleasantly surprised' were some of the reactions to the show, the final presentation performed by children from the Jule Fernandesschool, STIZONA, the Kennedyschool and the Grietjebieschool. The project, which started in February 2025, focuses on children with developmental disorders and intellectual and/or physical disabilities. Rotary Quota has already successfully performed two editions of Poku Prisiri in the past, in which music lessons were provided to this target group at various schools in Suriname. The lessons ended with a musical final presentation performed by the children themselves.

 On the occasion of the 4 th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Paramaribo Quota on June 7, 2025, the club gives back to society through its annual "Small Projects" initiative. On June 5, they made donations at “De Waag” to several institutions that work daily for target groups that Rotary Quota has been working for years. Owru Yari in downtown Paramaribo was once again a spectacular celebration last year, featuring the thrilling Pagara relay and various stages showcasing performances by popular bands and DJs. However, no celebration is complete without safety, and the Rotary Club of Paramaribo Quota ensured this with its annual earplug’s initiative. With the dedicated efforts of Rotary Quota members and friends, over 10,000 earplugs were distributed before noon on New Year’s Eve to the enthusiastic crowd gathered in the city center. Safety personnel, including firefighters, ambulance workers, police officers, and residents of several elderly care homes, also received hearing protection, enabling them to enjoy the festivities worry-free.

On November 12, 2024, the teach-out of the Quota Men Cook-out ‘Around the World
Edition’ took place. During this meeting, the breaking news is the announcement of the
proceeds of the QMCO, together with a brief reflection on the event held on November
2, 2024.
The 2024 event saw an impressive turnout of over 7,500 visitors and 800 participating
chefs. The campaign ‘No One Stays Home’ proved to be a resounding success. The net
proceeds from this edition amounted to USD 145,769. –

September 29 was World Heart Day. To inform people and governments about the dangers of heart disease, World Heart Day was established in 2000 by the World Heart Federation. Today is an international day with events and activities in over 100 countries. In 2002, the American National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute also declared this day as Dress Red Day to draw extra attention to cardiovascular diseases in women. Women often have less obvious symptoms than men, making it harder to detect and treat a heart attack in time, with potentially fatal consequences. This idea has since been adopted in many countries, and the red lighting of important buildings or monuments is becoming more common.
