Paul Harris Recognition Offers Example for Others
Two members of the Sunrise club were awarded Paul Harris recognition pins at the Jauary 5th meeting. PP Chris and Director JD received recognition for being multiple Paul Harris Fellows.
For those new members who may not know the significance of the awards, the Paul Harris recognition pins are presented to Rotarians who make significant donations to the Rotary Foundation. Donors of US$1,000 or more to the Annual Programs Fund, PolioPlus, or the Humanitarian Grants Program, or people who have that amount contributed in their name, can be recognized as Paul Harris Fellows.
Although some Rotarians make their donations anonymously, by receiving and wearing a Paul Harris recognition pin, Rotarians can inspire others to join in the effort to build the Foundation's funds.
As of 30 November 2010, the number of donors through the various Roaty Foundation funding programs appear below:
- Arch C. Klumph Society members -- 288
- Major Donors -- 13,347
- Bequest Society -- 7,382
- Benefactors -- 84,647
- Paul Harris Fellows -- 1,261,243
Even giving as little as US$100 annually can make a huge difference in the amount of good that Rotary can accomplish. According to the Rotary International website, "If every club member contributed $100 every year, Rotary could nearly double its efforts to help needy people worldwide and support the continued growth of its programs."
