Reward Fund Grows
People and businesses across Cayman are coming together to keep the public’s attention focused on the need to find and arrest the people whose home invasion terrorized a family and threatened to reduce the amount of good work that Rotary Sunrise could do with money raised in the community.
The $50,000 base provided by Crime Stoppers has been supplemented with additional pledges to the point where someone could receive around $110,000 for information leading to the conviction of the gunmen.
“Unless it hits you, you really don’t know what it’s like,” the club was told last week. “If you overhear something, you’ve got to get it to a detective.” The message was that the RCIPS cannot go it alone, it requires a robust reward fund that will demonstrates a community is serious about fighting crime.
In addition, there have been multiple pledges to ensure that Rotary Sunrise will not lose any funds if the stolen money is never recovered. Because the pledges exceed the amount stolen, discussions will be held on whether or how to put the excess funds to use in some form of local anti-crime initiative. In other words, community support will enable Rotary Sunrise to either contribute to or initiate another local service project that can prevent having another family be traumatized by crime.
