Recap of 2015-16 Preview

   As requested, following President Christine's two-part look of 2015-16 service priorities, the following slides from her Power Point illustrate how four key committees will be instrumental in helping Rotary Sunrise make a difference throughout the coming year.

This year we have two extraordinary events we have been asked to support: the RYLA Cayman conference for young people ages 15 – 18, and Rotaract District Conference in May.  Other projects we will continue to support include EarlyAct, Rotaract Grand Cayman, School Meals (through Feed Our Future).  “New” projects include the summer cooking camp from earlier this month and a Youth Crime Prevention Day in October at Clifton Hunter HS.  Other possibilities include reviving a photo competition, vocational service signature project (like the Science Fair), InterAct and an etiquette project.

Rotary Sunrise will continue to support LIFE and traditional literacy projects, such as the Fred Spiers Interschool Debates, the Butterfly Story Book essay competition, the 7th Grade Dictionaries and others.  New project proposals include Adopt a School Library (likely Bodden Town Primary School) with refurbishing, reorganizing and doing reading projects with students; and a revamped version of the old Bright Start program that targets young parents with materials that encourage reading to their new children.  Other projects to consider include Guatemala, NCVO Reading Corner, Teacher Training and others.

Community Service leads, as always, with our annual donation to the disaster relief fund.  Projects include the Health Fair (and becoming more involved so the Club can get more “bang” for our donation), the Pines Retirement Home Birthday Party and the Community Christmas parties, the Spotts Park and Beach clean-ups, the NCVO and CAYS Foundation, more hands-on projects, and donations for specific needs as they fit within goals set by RI & District 7020.

International Service priorities include grants for medical, education and community needs in Guaruma, and drinking water projects (including a new one in Mexico).   Proposals include two items listed in District 7020 goals: a Birthing Kits program and a Malnutrition Prevention/Reduction program called “Project Peanut Butter.”  International Service committee chair Pat Steward is research these.
