Much to Brag About in a Busy September
Rotary Sunrise has always played a significant role in working to increase literacy rates and instill a love of reading in Cayman’s children. Those efforts were on display throughout September to mark Rotary Literacy Month. Here are all of the things that our club can point to with pride.
- Adopted the library at Bodden Town Primary School
- Distributed more than 400 dictionaries to Year 5 students
- Publicized International Literacy Day with multiple media mentions
- Presented LIFE with major financial support in its 4th year
- Provided substantial support for the 2nd annual Scrabble Scrum
- Included an educational component to the latest trip to Guaruma
- Purchased new ESL-focused textbooks for immigrant students
- Organized a CALS program that can be started at the men’s prison
- Began plans for this year’s interscholastic debates
- Began plans for this year’s Butterfly Storybook Essay competition
- Continued preparations to form an Interact Club
- Hosted guest speakers to discuss expanding a math literacy program
