Kindness Repaid at East End
Last week 49 primary students from East End Primary School, Principal Mrs
Wallace and teacher Miss Bernadine Mills went to visit Janet Morse at her home.
Miss Janet and her husband Graham have been their regular readers in LIFE’s
Paired Reading Program. Janet has been very ill for some time and hadn’t been
able to go to the school to read, so no reading had taken place.
Miss Janet had this to say: “students from East End Primary School came to sing me
carols today.. They were delightful. Everyone gave me a kiss and asked when I was
going to get better and come back to the school. It was so touching. Along with the
amazing card (that they made) I have been spoilt.”
LIFE runs a Paired Reading Program in all the government schools on the island. It’s
not always easy to find readers in more distant schools, and the reaction from these
students just illustrates what a difference it makes to the youngsters. The program
will continue in the New Year. Thanks go out to all Rotarians who have taken time
once a week to read in our schools over their lunch hours.
