Getting to Know Rotarian Susan Fraser
I am gratified as I approach 30 years contributing to Education having entered the teaching service in my homeland Trinidad in 1986. My 3 year internship and 2 years of training college led to a Teacher’s Diploma with Distinction. I then taught for 11 years in various roles as a classroom/ICT teacher, remedial Reading tutor and further functioned as a Curriculum Officer in Language Arts/Reading serving the Education Division for School Supervision (Port of Spain) for 4 years.I was always committed to maintaining high standards of instruction and took every available opportunity to further qualify or professionalize through study. I obtained the Cert. Ed. in Educational Management & School Supervision, followed by a scholarship awarded by the Government of Trinidad & Tobago to complete my B.Ed. in Education Administration graduating with First Class Honors in 2003. Not one to remain idle, I was short listed for Graduate Scholarship consideration by both the Neal & Massy Foundation and Madeline Fulbright Committee while beginning the interview process for administrative openings. During this time I completed my M.Ed. in Education (Overseas Schools) with a focus on Instructional Technology from Framingham College, Massachusetts in 2005. I was particularly pleased to graduate with a near perfect GPA considering I taught full time and tutored daily on evenings while studying.
My degree led me to consider wider opportunities and I took up employment in August 2006 to work for the Government of the Cayman Islands. Presently, my post chiefly entails delivering Instruction in ICT to primary aged pupils across the Cayman Islands. Upon request, I have conducted workshops and training sessions for teachers in house and at the National education conference level.
I am a proud Rotarian involved in several of my service club activities. I am particularly concerned with raising standards of Literacy in the Cayman Islands through various school initiatives and promoting Rotary though Social Media.
