Adopt-a-Library Update

    Here is an update from Director Su regarding the Literacy Committee's Adopt-a-Library project. If you would like to be on the Literacy Committee and help with these wonderful projects attend the next committee meeting which is set for Thursday, January 7th at 5:30pm at the Water Authority offices in Industrial Park (contact Su or PP Hendrik to get further directions).
 
   Su discussed what items are needed in BTPS library with the librarian and with the Deputy Principal, Ms. Litrico. They would like a wooden big-book display unit, various laminated stickers and other stationary items. They have plenty of chairs and tables in there.  They also need a beech/oak-coloured wooden bookshelf – if anyone happens to have an old one to donate or can source one for us to buy second-hand, please let me know.  We discussed a budget of CI$300 for their use to buy items for the library (within our CI$500 budget for this project).  Sunrise would pay this sum to the Bodden Town Primary School PTA who will reimburse the volunteer librarian for her expenditure purchasing the items they need.  
 
   BTPS library has no books that are suitable for Reception year students (4-5 yr olds).  Some of these students have very low literacy skills when they start school; having some touch and feel books for very young children would be great.  Rotarian Dr. Enoka Richens has very kindly donated a number of these books on behalf of her parents for us to present to BTPS library.  
 
   As you know, we are sponsoring the Home Reading Programme which will start at BTPS later this school year.  The majority of the grant and Sunrise monies going towards this project will fund a good selection of levelled reading books for all years at BTPS.  We also have our Buy-A-Kid-A-Book fundraiser in March 2016 (2015 photo above), so by the end of this Rotary year, we should have bought a large number of new books for BTPS library.
