Rotary Club of Abaco conducts survey Posted by Jo Bradley on May 01, 2018 Literacy and education are two key focus areas of the Rotary Club of Abaco. We are interested in pursuing grant funding from the Rotary Foundation for a project that will be meaningful and impact our community in a positive way. You may remain anonymous if you wish but please give us your best effort. We have created an very short 3 minute online survey for educators, students, school admins, anyone involved in youth, education or literacy. Please take a few quick minutes to complete it for us. The club is looking to identify a few key areas of greatest need in Abaco to work on a grant project for. For example a computer lab in a school that doesn't have one. Or maybe athletic equipment is more important. I personal thank you for doing this and as does the Rotary Club of Abaco. Thirty Years of Women in Rotary On Monday, March 20, 2017 The Rotary Club of Abaco celebrated thirty years of women in Rotary. More specifically we celebrated OUR women. The Rotary Club of Abaco inducted the first two women Rotarians in the entire Bahamas in 1994. As PP Jo-Ann Bradley noted, while Rotarian men are "Supermen", the lady Rotarians are "Wonder Woman!" RYLA The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) was held in Nassau Feb 24-26 at the Melia Hotel. Over one hundred and fifty students from The Bahamas and the Caribbean attended. The theme for her year is “Celebrating 45 Years of Charitable Excellence.” During the dinner meeting, the new board was installed and the outgoing President, Charles Carey, reflected on his year and the Club’s many successes. Some of the projects the Rotary Club of Abaco completed last year were: -Careers Seminar at SC Bootle -Computers for ACH -Classroom Supplies for ACH & SC Bootle -Christmas Parcels -Donations for Hurricane Joaquin Relief -Blood Drive -Stove Donation for North Abaco Students / Seniors Meal Program -Bahamas Primary Student of the Year Association Donation -Every Child Counts Donations -Lovely’s School Lunch Program Donation -Hurricane Relief in Dominica -Sponsored Annual Hugh Cottis Speech Competition -Annual Senior Citizens Luncheon Many of these projects are yearly and highly anticipated by the community. President Dean’s goals for this year are “working smart” by partnering with many of the other hard-working service clubs in Abaco and continuing to grow the significance of the Club within the community. District Governors Visit and Awarding of PH's to Gentry, Basil & Nadine Posted by Dwayne Wallas on Nov 05, 2012 The Rotary Club of Abaco hosted the District Governor Vance Lewis and his lovely wife Monica Ramgeet on the evening of Tuesday November 6, 2012. It was a wonderful evening enjoyed by all who attended. A relaxed and galant affair which featured a message on the foundation and its purpose. DG Vance presented a moving analogy on the Foundation, discussed its accomplishments and of course the banner topic of Polio. The evening's 'icing on the cake' was hte presentation of Paul Harris Fellowship recognitions to Past President Gentry Morris, Rotarian Basil Beneby and his wonderful wife (and former Rotarian) Nadine Beneby. All three were caught off guard and had no expectation of the gift from the club. PP Jo Ann Bradley gave a brilliant speech delivering the Paul Harris message to those gathered and remarked on the good deeds of the receiving fellows. All while DG Vance had hte honour of pinning the blushing recipients, Gentry, Basil & Nadine. Congratulations to you three. Rotary Club of Abaco recognizes MUNS participant Posted by Dwayne Wallas on Oct 15, 2012 Abby Simon of St. Francis de Sayles School attend the luncheon meeting of 16th October and was presented her prize for achieving second place with her team mates on the Model United Nations Session held last year. The St. Francis team placed second and the team from SC Bootle High School in Coopers Town earned first place and a trip to visit the real United Nations in New York tagging along with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Lowe House Project Saga Continues and sees great stride forward Posted by Dwayne Wallas The exterior walls were framed adn put on Saturday past (May 31, 2014) which is another huge step forward to getting this joint club project completed. This project has been in the works for 5 years and will hopefully draw to a close this year. The Lowes are a very needy, very deserving family that have seen many hardships over the years. This is only made possible by the joint efforts of the Rotary Club of Abaco, the Pilot Club of Abaco and hte Scurvy Few motorcycle club of Abaco as well as numerous donors and helpful individuals. Presentation of Paul Harris Recognitions to 2 Very deserving individuals in Hope Town Posted by Dwayne Wallas At the Changeover Banquet where the baton is handed from the one president and board to the next, the Rotary Club of Abaco honoured two wonderful individuals with Paul Harris Recognitions. Both Vernon Malone and Candice Key were truly shocked to be the recipients and it was a pleasure to make the presentation. On hand was past Assistant Governor, Lindsey Cancino.
