September 8 was celebrated internationally as World Literacy Day. The Rotary Club of Abaco, focusing on the theme “New Generations” for the month of September, found it the perfect opportunity to outreach to the youth and community.  Throughout the day members of the club visited several schools throughout Abaco to read to students in their classrooms.

The club targeted schools in all three Districts: North, Central and South.

At each school where Rotarians read, the teacher or principal was gifted a bag of school supplies from the Rotary Club. Each bag contained roughly $150 worth of supplies. Items included: markers, stickers, erasers, note paper and many others to be used as teachers’ aids.

Five schools in total were read to on September 8: Cooper’s Town Primary, Central Abaco Primary, Little Darling Pre-School, Angels Academy and Cherokee Sound Primary.

Rotarians reading that day were: Desmond Bootle, Steve Davis, Audra Bootle, Bradley Albury and Jo-Ann Bradley.
