Welcome to the New Rotary Year 2020-2021![]() Despite the Covid-19 crisis, the EMS Rotary Club remains stronger than ever. Zoom meetings are now the norm and, as we adapt to the ever-changing situation, we will continue to support our Community with much loved projects such as the Four Way Test Speech contest for local High School students, the Emergency 1st Responders Breakfast & the Trailblazers Special Olympics Award Banquet. This year, with the help of TCC NW and local banks, we hope to deliver dictionaries to our 3rd graders and US Constitutions to 7th graders. We will send six local students to the annual Rotary Youth Leadership training event, continue to sponsor Community Link and TAFB, as well as the Rotaract Club at TCC NW - and in October we will be rolling out our new fundraising initiative – “Win with Rotary”!! Triple Filter TestEMS President Elect Doug Fox found this on the internet. "This may be the foundation of our "Four-Way Test." Socrates was the great philosopher in ancient Greece and was held in high esteem. One day an acquaintance met the great philosopher and said, “Do you know what I just heard about your friend?”
“Hold on a minute”, Socrates replied. “Before telling me anything I’d like you to pass a little test. It’s called the Triple Filter Test.”
“That’s right”, Socrates continued. “Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you’re going to say. That’s why I call it the triple filter test.
The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?”
“No,”,the man said, “Actually I just heard about it and …” “All right”, said Socrates. “So you don’t really know if it’s true or not.
Now let’s try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?”
“No, on the contrary.” “So”, Socrates continued, “you want to tell me something bad about him, but you’re not certain it’s true.
You may still pass the test though, because there’s one filter left: the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?”
“No, not really.”
“Well”, concluded Socrates, “if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?” |

This Month's ActivitiesEagle Mountain Saginaw Rotary Baby it's cold outside, but EMS Rotary is on fire! Kudos to our Rotarian and Mayor of Saginaw to accepting the Polar Plunge challenge. Rotarian Cindy Bighorse delayed her participation until next year due to the early morning snow. Our first meeting will be at 12 pm January 10 at the China Flag Buffet in north Saginaw, near Walmart. This is our first general meeting in a year and we have a great program. District Governor Peter Scott will present about Rotary International and the joys of being a Rotarian. Lock 'em up for the Planning Meeting of Saturday January 18 from 10 am to 2 pm. It's appropriate this meeting will be at the Saginaw PD Training Room. We will be establishing our vision and mission statements, reviewing the club bylaws (well overdue), and setting our goals for the future. Lunch will be provided. Party on as Eagle Mountain Saginaw Rotary celebrates it's 8th Charter Anniversary! We will meet at TBD at 7 pm. Indeed a celebration you won't want to miss. |
