Bullying, peer pressure, substance use and the need to fit in are realities many young people navigate. And while we often focus on protecting children from outside influences, there's another important part of the conversation: what's happening on the inside.

Join the Rotary Club of Vancouver for a fireside chat with Quinn Cashion, a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor, author and educator who has spent more than 30 years working with children, families and schools.

Quinn believes resilience isn't something we simply teach children or expect them to develop on their own. It's something we can help them discover and strengthen, particularly when they're surrounded by adults who understand the importance of emotional well-being, connection and belonging.

Drawing on decades of experience, she'll share a different perspective on prevention, the influence of adults on children's emotional development, and why creating healthy environments matters long before a young person finds themselves in difficulty.

On the eve of Remembrance Day, we gather as a club to pause, remember, and look forward. We'll open with a moment of remembrance for those who served, and for the Rotarians who built this club before us.

Then Per our bylaws, the Chair of the Nominating Committee (Joan Posivy) will present the slate of officers and directors for 2027/28 at this meeting, ahead of the AGM on December 8. We'll also share club updates, committee news, and a look at what's coming this season.

You've probably heard her sing, but do you know the story behind the voice?

From the Vancouver Canucks and Whitecaps to the Seattle Seahawks and Mariners, Marie Hui has performed the national anthem for some of North America's biggest sporting organizations. With more than 20 years of experience performing across Canada, the US and Asia, she's built an impressive career as a professional vocalist.

But her journey didn't begin on stage.

After graduating from BCIT with a business degree, Marie started her career in real estate development marketing before making the bold decision to leave the corporate world and pursue music full-time.

What does it really take to walk away from a secure career and build a business around something you love? And how do you make that work in an industry where there's no traditional career path or guaranteed paycheque?

During this fireside chat, we'll get to know Marie beyond her performances and explore the decisions, challenges and opportunities that have shaped her journey.

We'll talk about the business side of being a professional musician, the realities of working for yourself, and how her definition of success has evolved over the years. Marie will also share the more personal side of her story, including navigating unexpected family challenges, raising two young children, and finding a way to balance her career with everything else life brings.

Today, alongside her performance career, Marie teaches voice and performance at The Chorus Studio, helping the next generation of singers develop their skills and confidence.
