Since its inception in 2017, this Yellowhead community service program has reached over 500 high school students in British Columbia. The 2024 iteration has expanded into two other regions of British Columbia, the Northwest and this year the Peace region. Both new programs are led by Rotary clubs in their area.
This year's Yellowhead Rotary offering will be expanding to a four-day program with guest agencies including Douglas College, BCCancer North, Justice Insitute, and Rotary Hospice House.

The pandemic put a dent in all our volunteer projects. The most endearing one of all has been the literacy project. A multi-school community service, where we read to or have them read to us. Once a week for half an hour.

Yellowhead plans on starting small, at one school this fall.

On behalf of the Rotary Club of Prince George Yellowhead, we wish to congratulate Melanie Nichols on achieving the award of Paul Harris +1.

The presentation of Paul Harris Fellow recognition is The Rotary Foundation’s way of expressing its appreciation for a substantial contribution to its humanitarian and educational programs. It is named for Rotary’s founder, a Chicago lawyer, who started our organization with three business associates in 1905.
Happy New Year!!!

A quad club event is being planned for January 28th

The event is family friendly and is open to Rotarians, Rotaractors, Rotarian family members, friends and future Rotarians.

The event is to be planned as a break-even event but if there is a small surplus, it will be given to the TRF-Polio.  A small premium is being charged to cover the cost of the exchange students and prizes.

The Chinese New Year will be held at the Fortune Palace and will include an 8 course Chinese dinner including Peking Duck, Lettuce Wraps, spicy prawns and much, much more.  Pop, coffee and/or tea will be provided on demand.  Alcohol cost is to be picked up by the attendee.  We do need to know if anyone has any allergies to shell fish.  Curling will start at 2:30/3:00 (limit of 32 participants) and Chinese New Year at 5:30.

We are extremely happy to announce that we have surpassed our End Polio fundraising goal for the year! Through the support of our friends, families, local businesses, and our amazing community we have raised enough to fund 4,400 vaccines! Thanks so much to everyone who helped us reach our goal.

In particular we'd like to thank Zoe's Java House, Cercle des Canadiens Français, Ramen Ya Sendo, Magel's Cafe, and Booster Juice for having our jars out this year.

With food banks being used more than ever, we wanted to help out. Together with our fellow Rotarians, the Kinsmen and Rotartact we collected over 1300 lbs. of food and over $1100 in cash donations. We had 15 volunteers with each organization represented by at least a volunteer. Collections were split 50/50 with the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul.

Thank you to everyone who donated. It makes a difference.
We had the pleasure this week to be involved in the "burger blitz", delivering donations of burgers and fries to self-isolating or shut-in seniors. 10 of our club members helped with the deliveries which were all done in less than one hour - 80 deliveries! White Spot (Triple O's) donated the burgers and the Salvation army helped coordinate with the PG seniors Assoc. Rotarians did the delivering. #PeopleOfAction

Stay Healthy | Be Kind | Stop the Spread
With food banks feeling the pressure more than ever we were happy to help sort, sort and sort some more.

Always look for ways to volunteer in your community. #peopleofaction
Dear Friends of Mgutwa

We hope that you are well and staying safe with Covid -19.

With the schools being closed throughout the past month we had taken most of our time in renovating the school and maintaining the environment for an appealing view once students and staff return back to school.
It has been really difficult renovating school buildings when students are available with all the distraction they will be exposed to thus during this shut down period it has been a perfect time to intervene in all the standing works that were set aside for the holiday time.

The library building which however is the biggest  building at the school has been our main core for finishing work from it’s lengthy period and size. Everybody is just so excited to start using a larger library space and computer room.
Most of the students and staff call it the “Heart Of The School” as it is at the centre and can be accessed easily from all the classes with pathways that are well set aside to it and across it.  With a science presentation that was made early this year one of the students described the heart and how it supplies blood throughout the body and he convened this idea with how knowledge can be gained from each of the students when they visit the library often and made a humorous example that the library was a heart and it’s pathways were veins and arteries that all head to each person in the classes thus student should visit the library and read much more books so as to prosper in life as if they don’t it is just like how the blood will stop to circulate to the heart anymore and a person won’t be able to survive. This student presentation really showed us on how much the students value the newly constructed library with how they just compliment it as it will be the biggest school library in our entire region that really push us to make this dream come true.

We have made some steps with the paint job and veranda that we are happy to present to you all as we really could not have made it here without your generous support. Please get to see the attached photos in this email.
On behalf of all the families in our communities, students, staff and school management we say thank you  to the Yellowhead Rotary and Friends of Mgutwa for making us make tremendous progress in the school library building and may God Almighty richly bless you all.

Sincerely,
Kedmon and Monica

Guenter Stahl is part of the backbone of the Yellowhead Rotary Club. He has been key in revitalizing our Adventures in Forestry and Environmental Studies youth program and he gets us all together 3 times a year with Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. Thank you for your ongoing  involvement Guenter, we would not be the same without you!
Every year we award a Paul Harris Award to a member of our community. This year Kal Gill was selected for his on going dedication to our community as a whole and all that he does to support the efforts of the Yellowhead Rotary Club. He is always willing to help and always has a smile to share. Thank you for all that you do Kal. Well deserved.
Today we welcomed Trina Lomax as the newest member of the Yellowhead Rotary Club. She was proposed for membership by Janice Bleeker and we can already see that she will be a great Rotarian. We look forward to getting to know her more and working on great Rotary projects together.

It was great to see this amazing group receive the honor of a Rotary Citation. They truly are a benefit to our community.
