The Rotary Club of West Springfield is currently accepting applications from local individuals, groups, and organizations seeking Community Grant funds which will be awarded in the late Spring of 2024.  In keeping with Rotary International’s motto of “Service about Self”, Community Grants are prioritized based on requests demonstrating the greatest degree of benefit and maximum positive impact in serving people of and around West Springfield, with a high priority on requests funding capital improvement needs which have an opportunity to provide continued benefits to the local community.  Grants amounts up to $3,000 are available for 501c3 organizations OR up to $2,000 for non-501c3 organizations.

The Rotary Clubs of West Springfield and Agawam came together for their annual Thanksgiving Meeting on Tuesday 11/21 at the Storrowton Carriage House.  The much anticipated event brings both communities together ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday and its longstanding Terriers vs. Brownies football game.  Guests included students, coaches, and leaders from both town's football teams, cheerleading squads, and marching bands, as well as each town's mayor and other officials.  The consistent theme was the importance of community, collaboration, and coming together.  Attendees were encouraged to bring canned goods and non-perishable items which were donated to The Parish Cupboard which serves both communities.  Happy Thanksgiving and Go Terriers!

Trick or Treat!  The Rotary Club of West Springfield was proud to support the Annual Halloween Trick or Treat Trail Walk, hosted by the West Springfield Park & Recreation Department.  In addition to being a sponsor, Rotarians passed out treats to participants.

Proceeds from this event support our vital Community Grants Program, which go to organizations such as The Parish Cupboard, West Springfield Boys & Girls Club, West Side Helping Hands, the West Springfield Public Library, as well as supporting the humanitarian efforts of Rotary International. This year’s concert has an all-new theme and an all-new date, and the spirit of Rock-N-Roll is stronger than ever! This will be an unforgettable night of music in support of a great cause. On Saturday April 22, members of the Rotary Club of West Springfield participated in the 13th Annual West Springfield Clean-Up Day.  Team Rotary cleaned the Elm Street section of town, one of twenty sites cleaned by volunteers.  The event is hosted and coordinated by the West Springfield Environmental Committee and West Side Helping Hands.

The Rotary Club of West Springfield is proud to support the Boys & Girls Club of West Springfield, whose mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

The Rotary District 7890 Conference, celebrating 100 years as a district, was held April 29-May 1. Guests arrived at the beautiful Southbridge Hotel & Conference Center for a weekend of friendship, fellowship, hospitality, and learning. Speakers included Louisa Horne, Mike McGovern, David Tedeschi, Laura Spear, and Mary Shackleton. In attendance from the Rotary Club of West Springfield were Marcel Schmidt, and Ted and Barbara Hebert.

Rotary Club of West Springfield President Scott Haselkorn organized a Rotary ride with Club members Sarah Calabrese, Reid McManis, and Kim Landry. Thank you Reid, for leading the group down a series of trails throughout the Bear Hole Reservoir and into Ashley Reservoir. This was a challenging, enjoyable, and scenic mountain bike ride!

 

It's good to be back!  On July 13th, the Rotary Club of West Springfield held its regular meeting at Storrowton Tavern, the first meeting of the new Rotary year and the first in-person meeting since the pandemic pushed the Club to virtual meetings in March of 2020.

 

It was an action packed meeting, full of long overdue handshakes and Happy Dollars, not to mention some high energy singing led by  Rotarian Tony Di Giore!  Outgoing Club President Mike Bertera turned the reins over to incoming Club President Scott Haselkorn.  The Club meets again on Tuesday, July 27th, at 12:15pm at Storrowton Tavern.

 

The Rotary Club of West Springfield utilized The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International's Global Grants Program to conduct the Happy Schools Project.  This project supported schools in Shimoga, India and met a key Area of Focus- basic education and literacy.

 

Members of the Rotary Club of West Springfield staffed the Beer & Wine Station at the June 10th concert of the Summer Concert Series.  The weather was perfect and Beatles tribute band Studio Two delivered an authentic, high energy performance!

On Tuesday, January 12th, West Springfield Rotarian Bob MacDonald gave a presentation highlighting the Rotary Club of West Springfield's long history of service projects in Shimoga, India.

 

On Tuesday, December 8th, the Rotary Club of West Springfield welcomed a very special guest speaker- Rotary International President Holger Knaack.  "This is a historic day for our club," said Club President Mike Bertera.  The event marked the first time in history the President of  Rotary International visited the West Springfield Club!  Mr. Knaack gave an update on the future of Rotary and its campaign to eradicate polio from the planet, among other things.  The presentation included a Q&A period for club members to ask questions.

 

On Tuesday, December 8th, the Rotary Club of West Springfield inducted Andrew McCoubrey.  Andrew is a Fire Lieutenant with the West Springfield Fire Department and was sponsored by Sarah Calabrese.  Welcome Andrew!

 

History in the making!  On Tuesday, December 8th, Rotary International President Holger Knaack will join the Rotary Club of West Springfield as their special guest at their virtual meeting at 12:15pm.

On Tuesday, November 17th, the Rotary Club of West Springfield inducted Eileen Drumm-Moore into its ranks.  Eileen is the Executive Director at Mason Wright Senior Living, and a former member of the Rotary Club of West Springfield.  Welcome back Eileen!

Although the Rotary Club of West Springfield closed out the 2019/2020 Rotary Year virtually, the club welcomed four new members in June just before the gavel was passed from President Pat Willcutts to President Mike Bertera.  The newly inducted members were Nicole Stevenson, Banking Center Manager at Peoples Bank; Margaret Toomey, Program Director at the Center for Human Development (CHD); Sean Willcutts, Orthodontist at Reen and Willcutts; and Mary-Anne Schelb, Business Development at JGS Lifecare, and a former member of the Rotary Club of West Springfield.

 

 

 

 

On October 5th, the Rotary's Million Mask Challenge Tour made a stop in Western Massachusetts. On hand were members of the Rotary Club of West Springfield along with Mayor Will Reichelt, Fire Chief Bill Flaherty, and Police Chief Paul Connor to receive 5,000 masks for use in the West Springfield community.

During the Rotary Club of West Springfield's virtual meeting on Tuesday October 6th, the Club announced its 2020 Community Grants recipients.  The Club is proud to contribute to these very deserving organizations.

On Tuesday, September 22nd, the Rotary Club of West Springfield inducted two new members into the Club- Danielle Veronesi Polastry and Steve Burrington.  Danielle is the Director of Marketing and Customer Service at Peter Pan Bus Lines and the Director of Marketing for Bean Restaurant Group.  Steve is the Plant Manager at Agrimark, a longtime partner and supporter of  the Rotary Club of West Springfield.

The Agawam Rotary Club is supporting the Parish Cupboard through a Food Drive from August 3rd through August 7th.

 

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the uncertainty around public events in the near future, the RotaryRocks concert originally scheduled for July 11, 2020 has been cancelled.  All sponsorships and ticket purchases will be refunded.

 

With that said, we are very excited to share that we have secured Back to the Garden 1969 to headline our 2021 RotaryRocks concert on Saturday, July 10, 2021.  Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you in 2021!
