President's Pen

Rotarians,

We are one month into our new year and what great speakers we have had thus far!  Tom Gouttierre who shared his thoughts regarding the Everchanging Middle East and Scott Hazelrigg, President of NorthStar who provided insights about his organization and its members.  One of the reasons many of Omaha Downtown Rotary members attend our club meetings is to hear speakers like these individuals as they enlighten us about important issues while challenging each us to think about how we can better serve our community.  Hats off to Bev and Lori who continue to work to bring weekly quality programming to the Club!

Also, it was wonderful to have some of our Rotary Foundation grant award winners join us this week. What amazing work they are doing in the Omaha Community. Congratulations to the following organizations in attendance:
  • Assistance League of Omaha
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of the Midlands
  • InterCultural Senior Center
  • MerryMakers
  • Omaha Children’s Museum
  • Omaha Latino Center
  • Partnership for Kids
  • Project Houseworks
  • Respect
  • Set Me Free Project
  • Urban League of Nebraska
Representatives from each of the organizations who received a grant shared information on how the grant funds will be used.

These grants will make a real impact in the Omaha community.  Rotarians – THANK YOU for continuing to make a difference!

See you next Wednesday for our 110th Anniversary Celebration!

Rotary's Statement for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At Rotary, we understand that cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture is essential to realizing our vision of a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change.

We value diversity and celebrate the contributions of people of all backgrounds, across age, ethnicity, race, color, disability, learning style, religion, faith, socioeconomic status, culture, marital status, languages spoken, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity as well as differences in ideas, thoughts, values, and beliefs.

Recognizing that individuals from certain groups have historically experienced barriers to membership, participation, and leadership, we commit to advancing equity in all aspects of Rotary, including in our community partnerships, so that each person has the necessary access to resources, opportunities, networks, and support to thrive.

We believe that all people hold visible and invisible qualities that inherently make them unique, and we strive to create an inclusive culture where each person knows they are valued and belong.

In line with our value of integrity, we are committed to being honest and transparent about where we are in our DEI journey as an organization, and to continuing to learn and do better.
