MEETING UPDATE
We will have our next HBYRID IN-PERSON/ ZOOM meeting at The Field Club November 18.
Get Details and Register HERE.
President's Pen
Your board of directors is making a significant investment of time, talent and treasure in the recruitment and retention of our membership. We have allocated the largest portion of our discretionary budget to membership, and I am ever grateful to Phil Taylor who is chairing our membership efforts.
Phil and his team have several initiatives underway which deserve your support.

  • BRING A GUEST – …a $25 gift card will be awarded each week for the next 12 weeks to one of our members who has hosted a guest…
  • SOCIAL MEDIA - …a major promotion of our programs is underway…forward our posts to your network…thank you, Sean Olson…
  • MARKETING AND REFERRAL PROGRAM - …new materials are being prepared and a program developed…thank you, Todd Murphy and Michele Boles…
  • ONBOARDING AND EXIT INTERVIEWS - …John Mock is leading these efforts…

Also, Hal Daub will be the honorary chair and I will chair our efforts to recruit new members of our South Omaha community to join Downtown Rotary in 2021, with a long-term goal of spinning off a third Rotary club initiated by The Rotary Club of Omaha. As you may know, our club was responsible for the first Rotary club in Council Bluffs, IA and for the formation of Suburban Rotary. Combined membership today would be approximately 400 Rotarians.

We live in challenging times, and the Rotary mission endures! Do you believe as I do that the world could certainly use many more Rotarians?

Invite a guest and I will see you online on November 4th as we welcome a Department of State official with deep experience in U.S. – China relations.

Dave Karnes

Our member, Dave Karnes, has passed away.
You probably have already seen many of the stories about this wonderful man.
You can read some of them here:
Please keep his family in your prayers.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing

We have two locations to ring bells at the Nebraska Furniture Mart this year.
East Doors of the Electronics Building (next to Subway) and the Main Furniture Building Entrance.

Saturday, November 29, 2020
10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Thank you!

This is our national bell ringing video. We are encouraging all volunteers to watch this as it may answer some questions about safety and wellness related to Covid-19.

COVID Safety Protocol:

This year we are implementing safety protocols to ensure the health and safety of bell ringers, customers and associates.

General Guidelines:

  1. Before reporting for a shift, you need to review the national bell ringing video (see below) that shows best bell ringing practices during COVID.
  2. Follow current CDC and local guidelines related to exposure.  If you are exhibiting symptoms or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 in the past 14 days, please reschedule your shift.
  3. You are required to wear a mask for the entirety of your shift.  If you do not wear a mask, the manager for location may ask you to leave.
  4. As an individual approaches the kettle, please step back to maintain social distancing.
  5. Bell ringers will not have any physical contact with donations or individuals.  Please allow donors to put the money into the kettle – do not assist them.
  6. Kettles will be equipped with Google Pay/Apple Pay to allow for a contactless donation option.
Membership Application
We have received a membership application from Mitch Treu, Co-Founder of Funnel House and Axiom Workspace.
Mitch is sponsored by Todd Murphy.

Any comments should be sent to Leigh Sittenauer at director@omaharotary.org.

Salvation Army Night Watch
Lindy Hoyer has been in touch with the Salvation Army in regards to their winter watch food distribution program. She has signed our club up to serve on 4 nights beginning in December through February. Each shift will require up to 3 club members to sign up, two will be serving food and one will be the jump (person who organizes crowd outside and hands out clothing). At this time no drivers are needed. The shifts start at 5:45 p.m. at the SA Western Divisional Headquarters, 10755 Burt Street. If new to volunteering for SA, need to arrive a bit early to fill out paperwork. The shifts each night are from 5:45-8 p.m. Volunteers must bring and wear a mask, wear warm clothes.

World Polio Day
Please see the link below to an inspirational video you can watch as we consider World Polio Day.

Volunteer from Home
Send Happy Notes to residents at the Salvation Army’s Durham Booth Manor. This is a project that can be done at any time.
If we could get a few club members signed up to send them, Lindy Hoyer will get a committee member to coordinate the frequency of the notes.
Just cheery notes to brighten someone’s day.
