Ponca City Rotary teamed up with Pioneer Technology Center for the City Arts Fox Project. Local artist Mindy LittleCook brought Pioneer Tech students' vision to life with this amazing steam-punk fox design. 'Edison' represents innovation, teamwork, and the evolution of technology from past to future—symbolizing the spirit of invention and education!"

 

Ponca City Rotary recently joined with Attucks Community Center, Webber Lodge - No. 26, and ORPHA No. 151-OES to host a celebration of Civil Rights. Senator Matthews, Representative Lutrell, & Senator Coleman presented information about the proposed civil rights trail that will go throughout Oklahoma highlighting communities and people who made significant contributions to the civil rights movement.

Rotary Youth Leadership Award or RYLA is an annual youth leadership development camp provided by Rotarians across our district at no cost to campers.  This year our club is sending 3 campers to this life changing experience.  As part of the camp on Saturday night Rotarians across the state join the camp for the annual chili cook-off there.  This is a great opportunity to interact with the kids and see your contributions in action. 

 

We will be doing a carpool down to Guthrie for this event and hope you will join us or consider sending chili down with us.  (Chili is not required, all are welcome to enjoy the food and friends).  Please click here to let us know if you plan to attend or can provide chili.

 

 

 

Join us for a visit to local artist Alena Jennings new business The Doodle Academy located at 103 East Grand on Thursday, July 19th at 6pm.   We will be doing a special painting with the Rotary theme "Be the Inspiration" in mind.  Cost is $20 per person.

It was chilly Saturday morning last week for round 2 of our yard work at the Union School playgrounds but a good day with the help from Union School teachers and principal as well as several of the Charity Angels we got a lot done.   Our goal will be to meet again in the spring and hopefully if we can meet twice a year we can keep the weeds at bay in the play areas.  Also a big thanks to Teresa Lewis' friend David with the tilling! Get ready for Rotary's 5th annual World Polio Day event, co-hosted with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  There will be a live stream from Gates Foundation headquarters in Seattle, Washington to bring together more than 50,000 viewers around the world.  Join us to hear global health experts and celebrities share our progress on the road to polio eradication.   The live stream will take place at 4:30 PM CDT October 24th on the endpolio.org website.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

If you enjoyed hearing about and seeing the METS lab as much as I did at our Tuesday meeting, I'm sure your thinking what do we need to do to help wrap up our project to upgrade the computers and add equipment?  We have already received $5,000 dollars from a district grant, and we just need $2500 more.  That's just 10 people willing to give $250, and I know we already had one person commit after seeing the truck at Tuesday's meeting.  Please contact Brook or Sharon for more information.   (Shown below is the  Rotary emblem they made right before our very eyes in the METS lab)

We need your help with ideas for a club fundraiser.  As you know many clubs and organizations have annual signature events and we'd really love to have something like this as well for our club.  An Annual Fundraiser would not only help Rotary be more visible in the community, it would also allow us to be able to do more for our community as we continue to focus on youth and education.  If you would be willing to work with other club members to brainstorm ideas and a plan we would love to have your help.  Please email Sharon Green at sgreen2@bankrcb.net to let her know you'll help.

The United Kingdom pledges $130 million on Friday toward the fight to eradicate polio.  The contribution will help fund immunizations of 45 million children a year through 2020.  In June, at the Rotary Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, global leaders pledged $1.2 billion of the estimated $1.5 billion required to end polio.  However, Rotary's work continues.  We're now working to raise $50 million a year to ensure that global leaders make good on this summer's pledges.  To see a list of pledges and a great video on why zero matters click to Read More

Kelsey Wagner, Sharon Green, Teresa Lewis, and Robbin Davis carpooled to Guthrie to visit the RYLA Camp this past weekend.  This is yet another great project that our club supports annually by sponsoring students to attend.
