Nepal after the Earthquakes 2015 and the Dhulikhel Hospital – an update
5 years ago our attention at the RCMI had been drawn to Nepal, one of the poorest countries oft he world. After more than 2 years of negotiations we could finalize two Matching Grants to support the Dhulikhel Hospital (DHos) together with the RC Freising, RC Neustadt/Vohburg and RC Dhulikhel in 2014. Additionly we supported the DHos with 2 more projects (Dpt. for Gynecology and Dpt. for Gastroenterology). During the severe earthquakes in April and May 2015 many people died, even more lost their homes and regions of the country were destroyed. Manifold support may alleviate the unbelievable suffering. We have to acknowledge that only long-term help will be successful.

Meditation - explore your inner world and live in a beautiful state of being.
Some of the most successful people in the world are now discovering what ancient spiritual teachers have known for thousands of years.
When we are internally living in haste, our mind is like a motor that is always running. We are fatigued because we are constantly on the run and feel that we don’t have enough time. Yet, a mind that is unhurried is able to find time to savour every experience of life. It is a mind that is able to appreciate all the beauty of life’s existence. It is a mind that lives in Beautiful state of being.
Meditation will give you the time and space to slow down the movie of life. You will begin to experience Time differently. You will feel there is enough time to do everything and enjoy your life. There will be time for yourself, your family and your work. You will live each day in peacefully.
Balbinder will give a talk about this fascinating subject and give you taste of this profound experience. |

Mission Possible: Impact on business result with people development Generating business impact with the support of development initiatives is a possible mission. But only if you break old paradigms in training with special attention to leadership and talent development. Great trainers and world-class training courses are far not enough to make people engaged in changing current routines. A twist in people development approach will stop wasting training budget, time and effort for organizations. Probed and tested learning concept and set of key drivers bring immediate, long-term growth of business KPIs. The Governance Model based leadership development interventions influence both managers’ and colleagues’ mindset, behavior and routines and thus make the organization s strategy happen. |

The FX Global Code - a new approach to good and ethical conduct in the foreign exchange markets
After events of misconduct in the $ 600 trillion foreign exchange markets during recent years, the most important market participants under the leadership of the central banks have developed a global code of conduct in order to foster ethical behavior and transparency in the market. This new code having been released in May 2017 is a good example of Rotarian values in business life.

Intelligent intuition - the human trump card in the digital age How to make optimal use of the powers of our intuition - how can we understand them better, and how can we develop them further? How do we protect ourselves from typical intuitive mistakes? As a unique feature, our concept “Königsplan” shows how executives can connect their valuable intuition with structured and strategic planning and thus make good decisions in a complex environment under time pressure. In management, decisions have to be made ever more quickly, the complexity of these decisions grows, the consequences of our decisions become more far-reaching, and thus the personal pressure we are subjected to grows as well. For chess professionals, such a scenario is an everyday occurrence; they have learnt, over the course of centuries, to deal with it in an optimal way. In the course of digitalisation, all rational-strategic processes will be taken over gradually by artificial intelligence. It is all the more important to enhance our understanding of humanity´s very own and unique trump card, and to develop it further, to wit, our intuition. Fast as lightning, a well-working gut instinct draws from the full treasure of our entire life´s knowledge and experience, and makes the real difference between top executives and less successful managers. At the same time, studying this vital area meticulously is required in order to connect, in the future, the strategic-digital sphere with the sphere of human creativity and intuition and to create a network between the pertaining sections.

Rome – the City and the Name The name of the city of Rome, Latin Roma (with long o), has no generally accepted etymology. In particular, the popular association with the old name of the Tiber river, Rumon, is rejected by specialists on phonological grounds. All other attempts to find a derivation for the name have sought it within Indo-European. But a close look at the Mediterranean world in the early first millennium BCE (7-5-3 – Rom kroch aus dem Ei!) makes a non-Indo-European, namely Semitic origin appear more likely. In my presentation I will propose a new etymology, with close attention paid to both the sound and the referent of the name. |
