Dear District 5950 Rotarians,

I’m excited and honored to serve with you as your new District Governor (DG). On Tuesday, June 30, IPDG Mark Shockey installed me, DGE Sam Thompson (Edina Rotary) and DGN Scott Swenson (Eagan Kick-start Rotary) as your new DG leadership line at the Ames Center in Burnsville. Over 150 Rotarians and guests gathered for the event which included singing by my daughter Svea of the National Anthem and “America the Beautiful,” a PDG parade, reflections from PDG Sandy Schley and RI Director Tom Gump and a 5-minute video of congratulations and greetings from my global DG and Rotarian friends from around the globe. After my DG speech about the paint colors tied to the “Rotary 7 areas of focus,” District Polio chair Tim Mulcrone painted his way across stage as the famous painter “Bob Ross” presenting us with his artwork about Polio Eradication and announcing the “World Polio Walk” on October 24. Together, we will “Create Lasting Change,” RI President Yinka’s presidential theme, while we enjoy “The Art of Rotary.” Now the fun and work begin, again!

Vamos Amigos!
DG Leif

Membership Events

Often prospective members attend a couple of our club meetings, and then we feel they should make a decision about whether to join.  That process doesn't always give prospects time to thoroughly evaluate what being a member of the club would be like.  Holding specific membership recruiting events is an evidence-based strategy for increasing your membership.  An effective membership recruiting event is one that is intentional, with the defined purpose of educating prospective members about the club and membership.  This is in contrast to inviting prospective members to a general Rotary Club event with multiple purposes (club meeting, doing a service project, fireside, happy hour, etc.), which have not been found to be as effective in actually signing individuals to membership.

So, it may seem like more work--now I have to add more tasks for my membership committee?  These events for prospective members can be fairly simple to construct. Click “Read more” to see some great recommendations.
