Amplifying the Edmonton Region - Edmonton Global

Edmonton Global is focused on making the Edmonton region the choice location for global investment and building a sustainable and prosperous future. Brent Jensen is a Senior Director, Business Development with "Edmonton Global". He shared the many advantages the Edmonton region offers that makes this area unique in the world.  The region has a young, educated population, affordable cost of living, a 24-hour expanded international airport, shorter shipping times to Asia (via rail and the Port of Prince Rupert), plus world class medical and research facilities. All indications are that the Edmonton region is very well positioned to grow the economy in the coming years. We have lots to be proud of!

AI: Promise or Peril

Dr. Vern Glaser, Associate Professor, Alberta School of Business, shared the interesting development of AI (Artificial Intelligence).  He provided many examples of the benefits and efficiency improvements AI can provide. But also the darker side of this new technology. No matter what your thoughts might be about this technology, it seems that it is with us to stay.

Royal Alexandra Hospital  Foundation

The "Royal Alexandra Hospital"... Most everyone has been in this hospital over the years. Some club members were born there, had children there, some have had surgery there, many of us have had loved ones as patients there. The "Alex", which has been in operation since 1899,  is the busiest hospital in Alberta serving over 500,000 patients annually. Also, since it reaches 1/3 of Canada's land mass,  it is also referred to as Canada's "hospital of the north".
 
Morrel Wax and Emily Lennstrom of the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation shared with members the many unique challenges and specialized services offered at the Alex. But also the importance of the role of philanthropy in healthcare.
