Wow, what discussion about all things AI. The history, the advances, data centres, the benefits and the risks. Dr. Guzdial, Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta and CIFAR AI Chair at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) gave members a bit of everything. No doubt that this technology will be impacting our lives with greater and greater speed over the coming years.

It's unfortunate but true, that the prevalence of Alzheimer's is increasing rapidly, that many of us likely know someone with the disease. Kelly McClung and Arlene Huhn from the Alzheimer's Society of Alberta and the NWT, shared with club members the warning signs of Alzheimer's, what to expect and how to best cope both as a caregiver and for the person experiencing Alzheimer's. Also learned that dementia is the umbrella term for many conditions, Alzheimer's is one of many similar related conditions. Thanks so much for Kelly and Arlene for coming to speak to Club members about such an important, and timely, topic.

This year's HSMN (High School Model United Nations) Secretary General, Jean-Michel Garzon Mahecha, with Golthi Vaidya (next year's SG) came to give members an update on this year's conference. This is an amazing event that brings over 50 high school students from all over Alberta to the University of Alberta for a weekend of work, comaraderie and fun, as they simulate the United Nations with political situations and emergencies. This is often a life changing weekend for these youth. Rotary Club of Edmonton Riverview have been proud sponsors of this event for 25 years.

Wow, what a story of determination and resilience in the face of despair. Barry's experience shows that leaders are revealed by adversity against all odds. Life's problems are challenges to be tackled and in the process make us stronger. Thank you Barry and we look forward to adopting some of your recommendations to make Rotary stronger.
