Ambassador of Germany Speaks in Edmonton

Edmonton, April 2, 2016.

 

 

Ambassador Wnendt is scheduled to visit senior government leaders in Alberta and is the featured guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Edmonton Strathcona on Tuesday April 5, 2016. The Ambassador will address current issues and answer questions of interest.

Ambassador Wnendt will be introduced by the club president, Mr. Harald Kuckertz, Honorary Consul to Germany.

 

The Rotary Club meets at the German Canadian Cultural Association, 8310 Roper Road NW, T6E 6E3 Edmonton. The meeting commences at 12:15 p.m. (1215) and concludes at 1:30 p.m. (1330).

 

 

Werner Wnendt was appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Canada in September 2012.

 

Prior to assuming his present position, he served as Assistant Deputy Minister for Culture and Communication at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.

 

From 2005 until 2007, Ambassador Wnendt was Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, having previously completed an assignment as Senior Deputy High Representative of the International community to Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2003 to 2005.

 

Between 2000 and 2003, Ambassador Wnendt served as a foreign adviser to Germany's Federal President. From 1998, he was Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy to the Czech Republic. Before that, he had been Chef de Cabinet to the Minister of State for European Integration in Germany's Federal Government from 1995.

 

Ambassador Wnendt joined the German Foreign Service in 1980. He also held positions in missions to the European Union in Brussels, to the U.S., Pakistan and Kenya.

 

Ambassador Wnendt studied geosciences and law and has a master's degree in geology. Before joining the Foreign Service, he worked from 1976 until 1978 for the German Development Agency in Myanmar.

 

He is married and has five children.
