On behalf of the editorial staff, we wish all of you a very Happy Christmas and a healthy and fulfilling New Year. the next e-Strathconian will be January 6th 2017.
Please be reminded that we will not meet on December 27th. Our next meeting will be on January 3rd 2017.
Our meeting on Tuesday was highlighted by a short talk from Sophie, Selma and Lu, from the Strathcona Rotary sponsored J Percy Page Interact cCub.
They gave us a brief update on what their club has been doing over the past year. Since September, they have held two fundraisers, a Halloween event that featured a horror movie accompanied by pizza and pop, and a recent sale of Candy(cane)grams for Christmas. They have a bake sale planned for the New Year. They have also visited Ronald McDonald House to provide a meal for residents there twice this fall and have two more visits planned for next spring. In addition, they have made visits to help out at Hope Mission and to visit the Allen Gray long term care facility. Many of their members also took part in a bikeathon to raise funds for Shelterbox Canada.
Sophie thanked our club for sponsoring her to attend a Rotary youth leadership conference in New Brunswick. It gave her the opportunity see how much impact Rotary can make in the community.
Selma thanked our club for sponsoring her to attend a Seminar on International Affairs here in Alberta, where she had an opportunity to learn how people from all walks of life can make a difference in the lives of other people. All three ably answered several questions put to them by members of the audience.
Two non-members, Neil Longson and daughter Karen Poepping, were awarded Paul Harris Fellowships, by Ron McCullough, in recognition of their contributions to the community.
It is with sadness we advise you that Barb Craig's husband John Ross passed away recently. A memorial service in New Brunswick is planned in the near future.

We have also learned that David Rayner's mother passed away recently.
Please keep Barb and David and their families in your thoughts.
Les Cyrynowski was inducted as a new member into our club. He was sponsored by Rose Marie Basaraba. His classification is Project Management & Construction.
Every year, the Ice on Whyte Festival grabs Canadian winter by the snowballs and carves it into a wicked combo of ice and art. Just imagine, 155,000 pounds of ice is dumped just to prep for this week long party – on purpose! So, get your toque on and come down to the International Ice Carving Competition, ride a gigantic ice slide, or learn to carve ice just like a pro. One of the hottest shows is on the last night, where you’ll see fire melt an ice sculpture right back into H20. You’ll be right in your element. Get it? -

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner is a social program of the Rotary Club of Edmonton Strathcona. It is designed to provide an opportunity for Club members and spouses/companions to meet other Club members in an informal, social, small group setting.
Typically a Member would Host one month and be a Guest for two months. All Members are encouraged to participate - even if for only one month. The visitors should expect anything from spaghetti or pizza to steaks. The most important part of this program is the fellowship and the opportunity to get to know each other better.
