Jeremiah Basuric, Mustard Seed Community Engagement Co-ordinator, pictured, gave a very inspiring talk on Tuesday, about the many programs that they provide for the community.
He spoke about how they try to meet the needs of people as well as help them develop their individual gifts. They are located in central Edmonton, as about 90% of the homeless in Edmonton live in that area. They try to inspire a feeling of belonging and sense of worth through their many programs.
Approximately 95% of their funding comes from private donors and sponsors such as ourselves. As Ken Sutley suggested, and Hank Williams Sr so eloquently put it, he gave us a 'picture from life's other side'.

They run a day shelter and coffee house that gives out about 1,000 cups of coffee a day, and also provide an evening meal for about 300 people each night.
Their evening programs aim to provide a safe place for people to come and enjoy time and build self esteem through offering Karaoke on Tuesdays, an Art program on Thursdays, movies on Fridays and watching Hockey Nite in Canada on Saturdays. They have a sewing session on Mondays where people can repair their belongings and a Food Bank on Wednesday nites.
They also offer children's programs, gardening programs and many other social opportunities for the residents of the area. He also spoke about the great need for affordable housing in Edmonton.
