We had a good crowd of golfers who ventured onto the short but challenging course. The Fun Golf has a reputation of being
.....fun. There were a number of contests and challenges for specific holes, such as closest to the pin and longest putt, and putting with a canoe paddle, goalie hockey stick, baseball bat and a pool cue. It was noted that a number of the players must have misspent their youth in pool halls as they demonstrated a surprising level of excellence draining the white ball into the pocket in the middle of a golf green! There was also the "Survivor" contest. This was where a golfer started with a golf ball with their name on it, and if it survived all 18 holes with out getting lost, their ball was entered into a prize draw.
The barbeque and social gathering started immediately after the golf at the Kinsmen Clubhouse. This facility seems to meet our requirements perfectly with a lovely indoor-outdoor setting. We had an excellent turn out of family members, most notably the Clayton children and Heather & Eric de Kok's baby Max, and the 6 week old baby son of Pam & Andrew Oswald. Our Master of Ceremonies (and the main organizer for this event) was Jarrod Clayton who kept the evening clipping along in an orderly fashion. Special mention to Chefs Jim Ashton & Ken Haverland on the barbeque. Also Bill Skelly for making the booking arrangements, and who was a great bartender. The best golfer of the day was Judy Ashton who had a great score. The "most honest golfer" award went to Rose Marie Basaraba. The putting contest was a show down between Stephan Van Vuuren and Eric Germain, with Eric getting lucky to hold off the semi professional golfer/medical doctor to win the putting championship. An exciting moment was when our in house auctioneer, Ken Haverland, worked the crowd in a live auction for a deluxe golf bag, generously donated by Bruce Flesher. Stephan out bid Dave Rayner in a high stakes show down. A great event as always, and acknowledged by President Ken Germain's closing comments.
Ken Germain also had 2 birdies on the day. One was a score of 2 on a par 3 hole, and the other was a crow that he hit with a golf ball!
All proceeds from the Fun Golf event will be donated to the Rotary Wheelchair Project.
