The Tip Toe with the Caribou is a one week trip to the Northwest Territories and Yellowknife. We left Edmonton on Feb 14 and the dirve up there was two days! We stopped in High Level and Hay River for the first two nights. In Hay River we went to see commercial ice fishing. We (or the fisherman to be exact) caught some fish and they cooked a supper for us on the lake. That night was a lot of fun! On Monday we finally drove all the way up to Yellowknife. It's amazing how long you can drive without seeing anything! We drove for 8 hours on Monday and suddenly after a long time of seeing only forest there was a city, Yellowknife. In Yellowknife we stayed in hostfamilies and my hostfamily was really nice. On Tue after sleeping well in a bed (instead of a school floor) we woke up early and we had a plane tour around Yellownknife. We tried to see some Caribou but they all were scared away by the noise of the plane. After the plane tour we went to have lunch in a local seafood restaurant where people could write their names on the wall. It was nice to see all the messages of the previous Rotary studens who had been there.

After lunch we started driving again to the place where we went wintercamping for the next two days. The place wasn't the nicest looking but we all had fun. There was no electricity or water and the heat was done with fire so it was smoky inside the cabin. On Tuesday night we built quinzees which is a type of a iglu. We could stay in the iglu overnight if we wanted but i didn't stay because i was a bit sick. But there were people who slept there for nine hours! No that i think of it i wish i slept in the quinzee because not many people can say that they have slept outside when it was -30! Wednesday we hanged out at the camp. We had activities like snowshoeing and making dream catchers. On Thursday we drove back to Yellowknife, took a shower after two days of camping (and it felt so good) and we went to the local Rotary meeting. Later that afternoon we went dogsledding. It was on of my favourite activities on the trip: so relaxing and fun! We also went tobaggoning and snowmobiling. Early on Friday morning started our trip back south. We stopped at the same places as before and on Friday night which was the last night together, we has a lot of activities and people were crying because nobody wanted the trip to end. One week and 3,000 kilometers later we arrived back to Edmonton.

The week of the trip was one of the most fun and amazing weeks i have ever experienced. I feel that I now know all of the other exchange students and also me so much better after spending 40 fun hours in a car with them. I am so lucky that i was able to go on that trip. It's was a week I will never forget!
