Events

The plan is to offer two sets of small-group, golf lessons.  Each set is for two lessons.  There is the Tuesday set and the Thursday set.  The lessons will last 1 hour.  The Tuesday set lessons are on Tuesday, April 7 and 14.  The Thursday set is on Thursday, April 9 and 16.  We will llimit to lessons 8 people altough our ideal size is 6 people.  Cost will be either $40/hour or $35/hour depending on the class size. 

All lessons will be at Deep Cliff golf course.  The instuctor will be golf pro Ethan Whttier.  It is hoped that students will try to make both of their lessons.  Clubs for the lessons will be provided if you do not have clubs yet.

There will be an option to play golf after the lesson if you so desire.

The goal of the lessons is to prepare Rotarians, family members, and friends with sufficient skills to play in our annual Classic Cupertino Rotary Tournament.  This year the tournament is Saturday May 9th.  It is so much fun to play in this tournament we want all interested to sign up.  The tournament is a scramble, so you playing your ball from the best shot of your foursome.  So, it is pretty pressure-free for playing and becomes a great social outing - with treats and meals.  The Golf Comittee (see Kim Worrall) will help you either set up a foursome or put you in one.

After you pay your taxes be sure to join the Cupertino Rotary packing party for Operation Care & Comfort. As in past years we will pack boxes for our troops overseas to let them know we care and send them a little comfort.  This is always a fun time!

📍 What: Second Harvest Farmers Market-Style Grocery Distribution
👥 Who: 8-10 volunteers needed per shift 
📌 Where: Cupertino Union Church, 20900 Stevens Creek Blvd
🕖 When: 1st & 3rd Thursdays of each month,  7:45 – 9:45 AM

Volunteers help set up and assist clients as they select their groceries in a Farmers market-style layout (and tear down afterward).  Friends/family (age 16+) are welcome!

Why This Matters:
Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is one of the largest food banks in the country, serving hundreds of thousands each month. Cupertino Rotary already indirectly partners with Second Harvest through our projects with Hunger at Home, West Valley Community Services, and De Anza College. This is our chance to partner directly—and right here in Cupertino.

Dr Chris Potter will be leading community leaders through the regenerative farming benefits and providing an overview of the farming process on April 20 and 21. Event to be held at the Guadalupe River Park - Historic Orchard at 411 Seymour Street in San Jose.  Come hear Chris speak to the benefits, process and encourage community leaders to address changes to city sustainability programs to incorporate these practices.

Hidden Villa's Executive Director will share information with us about Earth Day, as well as the Duveneck legacy at Hidden Villa with respect to social justice.

Climate Action Committee is helping to sponsor this event on behalf of FUHSD. Last year there were ~1,200 people signed up to attend the event. Hoping for a similar turnout this year.

The Climate Action group will be tabling at the event.

Cupertino-Toyokawa Sister Cities, Inc. (CTSC) is proud to present the annual Cherry Blossom Festival on Saturday and Sunday, April 25 & 26, 2026, at Cupertino’s Memorial Park, the Quinlan Center, and the Senior Center. This fun family festival honors Cupertino’s sister city relationship with Toyokawa, Japan by sharing Japanese arts & culture with the entire community.  Hours are from 10 AM to 5:30 PM each day.

Admission is FREE, entertainment is FREE, and parking is FREE at De Anza College and the Flint Center Parking Structure

Dr. Falk Cammin serves as the Program Director of the Humanities Scholars Work Experience
program at Foothill and De Anza College prior to chairing the Humanities Department at
Foothill College for 10 years.

Dr. Cammin received her Ph.D. in German Studies from Stanford University. She also holds an
MA in German from San Francisco State University, where she graduated cum laude, and an MA
in TESOL from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vt.

Dr. Cammin has taught courses for majors, non-majors and Honors students in Humanities at
Foothill College and Stanford University. Her research interests focus on Interdisciplinary and
comparative aspects of Trauma Studies and Post-World War II German literature and film.
In her spare time, she enjoys improv acting and mushroom hunting.

Project Springboard Continues through May 22: Rotary volunteers lead 1 hour Mock Interviews with students 

in the Educational Options Program, part of the Fremont Union High School District.

These are small group or one on one sessions with students who are receiving Vocational Readiness lessons in a Life Skills class. Rotary pairs with the Life Skills teacher to complement the curriculum being taught concurrently in the class to make the lessons meaningful.

Dr. Alonso Vera is the NASA Senior Scientist (ST) for Distributed Collaborative Systems. He has worked at NASA since 2000 and served as Chief of the Human Systems Integration Division from 2010-23. Dr. Vera has cross-disciplinary expertise in human performance, human-computer interaction and artificial intelligence. He has led the development of software systems across NASA robotic and human space flight missions including Mars Exploration Rovers, Phoenix Mars Lander, Mars Science Laboratory, Space Shuttle, International Space Station, and Exploration Systems. Dr. Vera received a Bachelor of Science from McGill University, a Ph.D. from Cornell University and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University.

We will gather at west Valley college to create vacuum packed individual packets of rice/vegetables/vitamin supplement, and then fill shippng boxes for the meals to be sent overseas for distribution in food-insecure areas. Typically, the packets made in our ares go to Asia. But really, they go wherever they are most needed. This is an energetic, fun, and rewarding service project! A  shift of just a couple of hours will allow  you to help feed hundreds of hungry people!
