Dear Rotarians and Friends
We had our first board meeting and rotary meeting at Milano’s café following the changeover a few weeks ago. Café Milano provided a very relaxed environment and a lovely breakfast to hold our first Rotary planning meeting for the year.
At the board meeting, the Club Directors agreed to discuss their plans with all club members over the next few months during our Club Planning meetings. We will be setting up a Facebook and Twitter account for our Club to promote our projects and Rotary.
Huge thanks to Terry Rodoni (Fundraising/Fellowship) and John Campbell (Membership) for their leadership in discussing their plans with the club last week. John has provided a summary below, all feedback is welcome.
I met with Madge McGuire (CEO Catherine House) to provide the $75 donation to Catherine House collected at the ChangeOver Dinner. Madge has provided the following note:
“I ask that you thank the members of Rotary Club of Adelaide Light for the kind donation that I received from you when we met, please see your attached receipt.
Donations that we receive help offset the operational costs of our successful Education and Employment Program, which was established in 2006. The Program is located in our Education Centre named Sagarmatha, where we offer 11 courses and have around 110 attendances each week. The program was awarded the national 2013 Homelessness Services Achievement Award for ‘excellence in employment or education’. “
All of the Adelaide Clubs are keen to support Catherine House and we will discuss this at our Group 1 presidents meeting at the end of July.
John received an email from Emily Gualter, Rotarian from Christchurch who visited our Club a couple of times a few months ago. Emily was studying here in SA on Exchange in the first half of the year. She spoke one morning about her Club's pathway from RYLA to Rotary. Emily has now returned to Christchurch and her message is below.
Look forward to seeing you all this week
Kind regards
Miriam
Membership Report
I welcome John Karran, Richard Jarrett and Rob McLennan as initial members of the Membership Team
As Membership Chair, I have studied the recent Club Survey results that were published by Past District Governor Marie Dorrington and distributed by the previous board of the RC of Adelaide Light.
The 2015 Club Survey showed that 68% of respondants prefer a Club membership of between 41 and 50 members. Accordingly this has become the first focus and to meet this goal (taking into account the usual 10% run-off of membership), we need to attract 1 new member every month to attract a net membership of 41 as at 30 June 2016. For our Club to be attractive to potential members, we need to be seen to be an active Rotary Club projects and activities in the calendar each month.
The Membership Team is asking each member to sign on to introduce and keep on introducing potential members to our Club throughout the year. To support this focus, we ask that each committee introduce new projects and take ownership of the fundraising for that project so that we become a Vibrant Club. What is a Vibrant Club? - I hear you ask. Please follow this link to open the brochure from the RI website.
We need to promote Membership Diversity by recruiting from our members recommendations and particularly people from the workforce so as to strengthen greater gender equality and greater age spread in the Club.
The Membership Plan for the 2015-16 year will be distributed by email prior to our Thursday meeting.
John Campbell
Membership Team Leader
Hi John,
I have made it back to NZ after my time in Adelaide and I have realised that I was unable to fit in one last meeting at the Rotary club.
However, I just wanted to thank all of the club members for making me feel very welcome during those meetings, it was a real pleasure to attend.
I thoroughly enjoyed my trip and getting to know your city. The University is a lovely space, and I will be suggesting to fellow students that exchanges in Adelaide are very worth while (and telling friends and family to visit). My trip has turned out to be very successful, in that I achieved quite highly in my university exams.
I have now settled back into life in Christchurch, and wow things have changed over my short 6 months of absence. I would encourage any of your members to include Christchurch on a New Zealand Itinerary - it really is a growing city with some amazing new places and structures. I would also be very happy to host any members at my Rotary club - The Rotary Club of Papanui on a Thursday evening.
Thank you again, Rotary Club of Adelaide Light, for making me feel so welcomed and included.
Best of luck with your change over period and the new year.
John, can you please pass this message onto the club,
Kind Regards
Emily Gualter
