Our speaker over breakfast last Thursday was Professor Warren Jones who currently is convenor of the Save the Health System in SA Alliance (2015 -present). He posed, responded and expanded on such questions as “We have got what the last Rann Government wanted but did we need it?” and “Did we need a large general hospital in the CBD?” and “Did we need to pay $11.9 billion for a populist luxury hotel-like hospital that is inadequate in many clinical functions?” and “What are the dual effects of the new RAH and the now discredited Transforming Health 'reforms' on the State's hospital system?”. He reported that currently the new RAH is the 3rd most expensive building in the world and may well become the most expensive building in the world.
John Karran, our Rotaract Liaison, suggested we check out the Rotaract Club’s new “The#FOMO!”which is emailed immediately following their meetings – please advise John if you wish to have your email address included in this Rotaract initiative.
Members were informed that at Wednesday night’s Board Meeting a motion was presented and passed that Club annual dues be set at $250 for the 2017/18 year. There has not be an increase in dues for three or four years, but other levies and insurances have increased and so this is necessary and prudent to ensure our club continues to operate effectively in the current financial climate. Treasurer Bruce McDonald will therefore be issuing notices to all members in the next weeks.
Soles4Souls are looking for volunteers to assist with packing a container of shoes on Friday 25th August at Regency Park from 9am – 2pm. From past experience, there is no idle moments but it is good fun and such a worthwhile experience. Fred and John C have indicated they will be helping so let me know if you are interested.
Next Thursday we will be joined by the Eastwood Club members for a joint meeting over breakfast – catch you then!

NUDITY - I was driving with my three young children one warm summer evening when a woman in the convertible ahead of us stood up and waved. She was stark naked! As I was reeling from the shock, I heard my 5-year-old shout from the back seat, "Mum! That lady isn't wearing a seat belt!
OPINIONS - On the first day of school, a first-grader handed his teacher a note from his mother. The note read, "The opinions expressed by this child are not necessarily those of his parents."
