It was good to resume our meetings at the Naval Military & Air Force Club last week and had an excellent turn up of members who had returned from Christmas holidays.
Some bad news to impart was the resignation from membership of Ray Cullen after just 20 months with us, but his move to Port Noarlunga makes it more difficult to attend early morning meetings in the city as well as covering his extensive work load. However, Ray offered to continue his commitment to use his creative design talents towards the 9500 Conference in Port Lincoln, and we thank him for this. Ray has provided great input into building our Conference's website and designing our two brochures (as well as other Club event designs for the Latin American Fiesta) - and for this we thank him for his efforts. Ray will continue as a "Friend of Rotary" so that he can be kept in touch regarding future events such as film evenings or fundraisers.
From next week, our meetings in the Long Tan Room will now cost $15 instead of $11 - so that we can cover breakfast costs of any speakers we may have. We will return to the Dining Room when our weekly attendance numbers improve or when we have a special guest speaker.
Rotaract Games - 1 February 2015
Our Club has volunteered to help at the Rotaract Games on 1 February to provide a BBQ or other type of lunch (depending on weather) as well as fruit. Smith's Gully Orchards in Montacute has kindly offered to provide apples for the games' participants free of charge. Community Services Director Rohan will keep members who have volunteered to help at this event informed of times and duties.
Fundraiser Movie for End Polio Now - 26 February 2015
On Thursday 26 February 2015, the movie "The 2nd Best Marigold Hotel" will be shown for the District's "End Polio Now" fundraiser. Cost will be $20pp and it will be shown at the Piccadilly Theatre from 7.15pm. We will pass around a list for those who wish to attend.

Our Club has been fortunate enough to have nominated three District Governors in our 29 year history....is there one more out there?
If you would like the opportunity to lead Rotary forward in 2017-18, put your hat in the ring and nominate for the D9500 District Governor role for 2017-2018. Nominations need to be forwarded to the District Governor by 12 February 2015.
RI bylaws require that each nominee must be a member in good standing of a functioning club in the district and must have served a full term as club president, or as charter president from the date of charter to 30 June (6-month minimum), at the time of nomination.
Members wishing to suggest qualified Rotarians to the Board for nomination should advise the Secretary in writing as soon as possible.
This week, we have taken the daring step of migrating our ClubRunner website from Version 2 to Version 3. This has created a few headaches for the team (Di as Editor, Bob B who puts in the meeting details, Yvette and Richard who help with the stories and the layout)!

Group 5 Dinner guest speaker is Marion McCall. Marion has not asked for a fee but she would appreciate a donation for the Jubilee 150 Trust, administered by Australian Church Women, which makes small grants to women on their release from prison, to help them re-establish themselves. 2. District Conference 26 29 March 2015
It’s now only a few months away from the Conference, and just under 300 people have already committed to attend to hear our diverse range of speakers. If you haven’t yet opened your December edition of Rotary Down Under, we suggest you do as the Conference Committee has inserted a four page Conference Brochure update on all our speakers and their topics.
3. TRF Presentation “The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is the sequel to the hit movie – The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel with the addition of Richard Gere. The Rotary Foundation has been fortunate to have scored a first release screening on Thursday 26 February, 7.15 pm at the Piccadilly Theatre in North Adelaide. The cost is $20 a ticket and funds will support our End Polio campaign. 4. Tea Tree Gully RC Ten Pin Bowl Challenge
On Saturday the 7 February 2015 we will host THE 4th ROTARY TEN PIN BOWL CHALLENGE in aid of Rotary’s “End Polio Now”. I have a challenge on behalf of Group 6. We have a full size bowling pin trophy up for grabs at this Challenge Fundraiser at Elizabeth Bowland.

5. Murray Bridge RC Art Show 1 – 17 May
The Rotary Clubs of Mobilong and Murray Bridge have pooled their resources to once again deliver an art exhibition celebrating some 30 years of partnership, developing an arts precinct and culture in this Rural City. Refer to the flyer for entry details.
6. RABS Response to recent bushfires
Rotarians are aware that the recent bush fires in South Australia have received significant media coverage and a strong supportive initial response from our fellow South Australians has been heart-warming. However, members of your club may be aware of continuing distress for people in the bush fire areas that require support and your club can help. Rotary clubs can now register a project with the Rotary Australia Benevolent Society (RABS) that enables the approved project to receive on-line donations that are tax deductible. Have a look at the attachment in the DG newsletter for details.
7. This is an SOS for volunteers to help through our Rotary network?
Help is needed by both the CFS Foundation and the Department of Community Services along with Karlene Maywald.
They are at the Stirling Angas Hall at the Wayville Showgrounds on Monday through to Saturday from 8 am to 6 pm until the 9th of February. Help is needed to sort out the mountain of goods donated for the victims of the Sampson Flat fires. They are desperately short of volunteers to help.
