A world without polio is within our reach. Today we're on the brink of eradicating a human disease for only the second time in history.
Polio eradication is one of Rotary’s longest standing and most significant efforts.
There are fewer polio cases today than ever before, but we will not stop until we reach zero and we need your help to finish the job. Your donation can make a difference by helping us to:
- Immunize 400 million children against polio every year
- Improve surveillance systems to diagnose new cases and detect the poliovirus in the environment
- Hire more than 150,000 health workers to find and vaccinate every child
If polio is not eradicated, hundreds of thousands of children could be affected. Global health care costs would rise dramatically, and many children’s quality of life would be drastically diminished.
Your donation today will save lives and give a child a chance at a prosperous future.
Rotary Australia World Community Service’s Donations in Kind (DIK) program in Adelaide is managing South Australia’s largest single Rotary project – getting surplus goods from the old RAH to needy communities overseas.
Starting in January 2018, 23 out of a scheduled 28 projects have already received goods from the old hospital, some containers already sent, others in progress. Nine containers have been loaded from the old hospital, with more to come. DIK is working with a wide range of organisations, including Rotary clubs in getting goods to 21 different countries in Africa, Asia, SW Pacific, Middle East and Australasia.
To date, over 3000 medical items have been packed and more than 1000 items are committed to the remaining projects or for temporary storage at DIK warehouse for future projects.
Thought for the week:
A purpose is developed with thought, but it is clarified with experience.
