Thank you to all members and friends who found time to assist at Thursday’s Bunnings BBQ where we raised  $1090.00

Next Thursday will be our AGM and Election of Office Bearers for the 2018/19 Rotary Year and I urge Rotarians  to consider what strengths and attributes you personally can bring to the Board of Adelaide Light and nominate for a position or approach another member for a particular role. All nominations need  to be submitted to me, as President – email is fine.

We are approaching a busy time of the year so please respond to the following:

  • Monday 27th November - cut  off date for Adelaide Light’s  Xmas Petanque Evening  to be held on Friday 1st December– this is necessary for catering purposes. Cost $25 per head is payable to Treasurer Bruce and all details have been emailed to members. Rotaractors will be joining us to try and win back the Rotary/Rotaract sporting trophy. Hope to see friends and partners. Contact President Julie.

  • Monday 27th November is the Rotary/ Rotaract mentor evaluation evening at 6pm for 6.30pm start at the Havelock Hotel. We would like as many Rotarians as possible, even if you did not participate in this activity , to attend.

  • Wednesday 29th November is the Group 1 Cricket “Howzat” Lunch at Adelaide Oval, in place of our Thursday 30th November meeting. Cost is $40 with $10 of this cost going towards the Rohingya Refugee Project which we have supported with a $1800 donation. Register online through Rotary Club of Adelaide. All details have been emailed to members but contact President Julie if you have trouble registering.

  • Sunday 10th December Adelaide City Rotaract’s 5th Birthday celebration – 10.30am Brunch at own cost at Flinders Street project followed by 12noon at Holey Moley Mini Golf Club @ $23 per head. If you are unable to attend afternoon please consider the morning venue or vice versa.

Di Lane has very generously donated an enormous Christmas Hamper for us to raffle and tickets will commence being sold at our next meeting, with the winner being drawn at our last meeting prior to Christmas.

Currently Rob McLennan is organising the Xmas Tree selling roster for the first three weekends in December, which is quite an intricate feat in itself, so please give freely of your time as this is another opportunity to raise much needed funds for our projects.

Thought for the week:
“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending”

Thank you for your orders.

Yvette's new puppies
Message from Yvette:
She says, I love the puppy feeding station called “WeanaFeeder”, pictured below.

It certainly saves time in not having to carry out 8 bowls of food separately! Multiply that by three times a day from 5 weeks old to 10 weeks old and that’s a lot of bowls I don’t need to carry separately!

1.     Rotary District Conference

The combined Rotary Conference to be held in the Barossa Arts and Convention Centre in 2018 will feature a Rotary Showcase where Clubs, District and Rotary affiliated programs can display and issue materials to publicise their activities.

Clubs and Organisations are invited to apply for the allocation of Display Spaces at the Conference. The Convenor of the Rotary Showcase is PP Les Dennis (RC Regency Park) lesdennis@bigpond.com  0408813966.  Because this is a combined Conference highlighting Coming Together,  it is likely that there will be a heavy demand for available spaces. Convenors and key personnel are urged to contact Les to reserve a spot in the display area asap. The Conference commences at 1pm on Friday 23rd March with Registration open from 9.30am. The conference concludes at 1pm on Sunday 25th March.

2.     Annual Golfing Tournament -

Australian Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians.

Australian Rotary Health is one of the largest independent funders of mental health research within Australia. ARH also provides funding for many other general health areas across Australia.

Headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing. This covers four core areas: mental health, physical health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services.

Rob Walters is working through the Australian Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians Inc. to present the 2018 Annual Golf Tournament at Murray Bridge, 8th to 13th April 2018. Any golfing Rotarians and friends who are financial members of an affiliated Golf Club and who hold a current Australian handicap or equivalent, can be a part of this exciting competition, to enjoy golf with many others, and make a much needed contribution to the above two organisations devoted to helping those at risk in our communities.

Division 2 Golfer handicap 16-23

Division 3 Golfer handicap Men 24-36, Women 24-45

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement

To be recognised as the Service Club of Choice in the Eastern Precinct of Adelaide because we are a Friendly Breakfast Club that appeals to a broad range of busy people who want to make a difference to local and international communities.

Jokes Corner

BIBLE

A little boy opened the big family bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages.

Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages.

"Mama, look what I found", the boy called out.

"What have you got there, dear?"

With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, "I think it's Adam's underwear.
