Stories
President's Pen
This week was our second week of our three month trial of meeting fortnightly and instead of a formal meeting at the Royal Coach nine of us (plus Pam Sullivan) met yesterday, informally for coffee at Kiosk on Sixteen at Victoria Park. A lovely sunny morning but accompanied by a very cold wind. Lesley Spark from the Rotary Club of Adelaide Parks informed us about her education project in Vanuatu and Angus will bring all of the Board up to speed to allow the Board to decide if our club wishes to become involved.

There is to be no working bee this coming Saturday (11 August) at Catherine House due to the weather. Kym Pedler, after consultation with former Club Rotarian Colin Davies, has suggested that the club should investigate employing a Stratco sub contractor to erect the structure and I am waiting for an estimate of the cost. Once erected the club would continue - under Kym's direction - the laying of the pavers and completing the landscaping (see photo below of workers from last week).

The combined dinner meeting with the Eastwood Club is planned for Wednesday 22 August at the Royal Coach and so far six members together with one guest have indicated their attendance. The guest speaker will be speaking about his walking the Kokoda Track and this is a great opportunity to invite a guest.

This morning nine of our club members (plus Lyn Karran) walked in the 10th annual Hutt Street Centre's "Walk a Mile in Our Boots" with approximately 4000 others. It was a beautiful morning finishing with a hot bacon and egg sandwich. Our Club has participated every year.

The Club's Social Committee are planning a social evening on Friday 5 October at the Riverside Rowing Club overlooking the Torrens River. More details to follow.

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement

To be recognised as the Service Club of Choice in the Eastern Precinct of Adelaide because we are a Friendly Breakfast Club that appeals to a broad range of busy people who want to make a difference to local and international communities.

Jokes Corner

* I bought a little bag of air today...the company was kind enough to put a few potato chips in it as well!

* You haven't know true heartbreak until you come home after thinking about the leftovers in the fridge all day...and then find someone else ate them.

* A police officer came to my house and asked me where I was between four and five...he seemed annoyed when I answered "Kindergarten".

* After 65 years my Grandpa still calls Grandma "beautiful, honey or darling". I asked him why and he said he'd forgotten her name 5 years ago and was afraid to ask.
