Care and Share Food Bank believes that no one should go hungry. Every day, they provide food to partner agencies across Southern Colorado to serve families, children and seniors in need because well-fed communities are better for all of us. Care and Share is also a member of Feeding America, a national food bank association. Every year, Care and Share distributes more than 23 million pounds of food to 286 partner agencies throughout 31 counties in Southern Colorado.
Rotary believes in developing the next generation of leaders. Our programs help younger leaders build leadership skills, expand education and learn the value of service.

Pikes Peak United Way is asking for volunteers to help community members use computers/scanners to apply for the Eviction Protection Program. The details of when/where volunteering will take place are TBD, but will most likely be in the month of May during the evening/weekend hours.
We now have a Team for Pikes Peak United Way that we can sign up for on their website. Please let Samantha Chapman know if you would like to be added to that team as samanthac@sentinelsoffreedom.org
Pikes Peak United Way will be hosting two training opportunities on Wednesday, May 12th from 6-7pm and Saturday, May 15th from 2-3pm. Trainings will be held at Pikes Peak United Way (518 N. Nevada Ave.) and you only need to attend ONE session.
Volunteers must be able to:
Scan and upload documents
Work with our most vulnerable population in a way that is warm, welcoming, and consistent.
Navigate the on-line application system and answer questions.
May of the participants will have experienced much trauma and will need a supportive experience.

The VFW has filled the remaining spots for the VFW Post 4051 Memorial Day Weekend Poppy Drive for May 29th or 30th. Thank you to those who are volunteering their time. You will receive follow-up communication from James Griffith with the VFW.

International Committee is working on some great projects!
- Joint Project with Denver Mile High Club Uganda mental health is approved and in motion!
- CSF approved $500 for Ashesi University project in Ghana. Distract Grant request submitted. Looking to get other local clubs to partner with us.
- Colorado Haiti Project is continuing on their agriculture project and has changed their name to Locally Haiti.
- We are drafting a request for the Practical Education Network (PEN) in Ghana for funding to help with the transition to online learning because of covid. We got to hear from PEN's CEO & Founder, Dr. Heather Beem last week as one of our speakers for the club's weekly meeting!

With Mother's Day falling on Sunday, I wanted to share my favorite Mother's Day poem. I've already written in this Kolumn about the fact that I am fascinated by hands so it's no wonder that this is my fav. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms, moms of furry littles, bonus moms, and god-moms. Oh and my own mom. Cuz she's pretty MOMnificent.
"Her hands held me gently from the day I took my first breath. Her hands helped to guide me as I took my first step. Her hands held me close when the tears would start to fall. Her hands were quick to show me that she would take care of it all.
Her hands were there to brush my hair, or straighten a wayward bow. Her hands were often there to comfort the hurts that didn't always show. Her hands helped hold the stars in place, and encouraged me to reach. Her hands would clap and cheer and praise when I captured them at length.
Her hands would also push me, though not down or in harm's way. Her hands would punctuate the words, just do what I say. Her hands sometimes had to discipline, to help bend this young tree. Her hands would shape and mold me into all she knew I could be.
Her hands are now twisting with age and years of work, Her hand now needs my gentle touch to rub away the hurt. Her hands are more beautiful than anything can be. Her hands are the reason I am me."
